family camping in grand teton national park!

in july, our family camped in grand teton national park (we also explored yellowstone for a day since it was about an hour drive from our campsite- photos below). camping was high on our list of something we wanted to attempt this summer together, and since we were planning to see family in wyoming towards the end of july, we figured it was a great excuse to tack on a national park out west to our itinerary and explore the grand tetons together....

i know i haven’t gotten to the rest of our camping photos just yet, but sharing the rest of our photos from star valley and jackson wyoming today! you can see the first post with more photos from star valley wyoming RIGHT HERE if you missed that yesterday. our last two days in wyoming, we spent in jackson, where josh did a fly fishing adventure with his cousin while i stayed back with the kids and explored a little bit of jackson with them (we mostly just adventured at the hotel pool and found ourselves some playgrounds and rock climbing bouldering walls nearby, plus a bungee trampoline situation which my kids lived for!) once josh got back to jackson, we all did the alpine slides and cowboy coasters together since we could take turns with the babies at the base of the mountain....

we are back in new york after spending about two weeks in wyoming. for part of our trip, we stayed with family in star valley, which is about an hour from jackson. it’s a very tiny town, but goodness gracious does it sure pack in the most epic landscapes of the richest coloring (had i ever even seen that shade of green before?!) and also showed us a sunset that i haven’t been able to shut up about (photos below- without any color alterations or editing- literally, that is the raw file straight from my camera card....

a few weeks ago, i flew solo with madalena and beatrice across the country from new york city to los angeles to spend time with old girlfriends from college and their babies for a week. although we went to college here in new york city, we decided to meet in LA since it was the half way meeting point for two of us who needed to travel the furthest, as one of my girlfriends lives in australia and was also making that trek solo with her 3 month old baby (she’s amazing)....

the beach in puerto rico…

it felt like a dream, most of our early mornings and late afternoons on the beach last week in puerto rico. it wasn’t all relaxation and bliss – i mean, nothing keeps you more in check and on your toes than two 11 month old babies that are the most curious little beasts who enjoy holding, tasting and face planting into the warm sand as well as crawling as fast as their little bods will allow towards the crashing waves with such excitement you’d follow suit if you didn’t know any better....

hello! i finished compiling all of the videos from our camera (and phones) into one place from our week in rome, italy last month! gosh, it sure brought back a flood of memories putting this together of moments and tastes and places which already seem foggy over here in my memory. so so thankful for the easiness of whipping out a phone on occasion and having it hold onto a memory for me (and my children) so we can have it forever....

something that we did years ago when eleanor was 1 and samson was only 5 months, was visit a parmigiano-reggiano factory in parma, italy together. it’s something we talk about frequently ever since as well, since our 3 older kids request parmigiano-reggiano cheese with all their pastas, and something we have stocked in our fridge even if we’re running low on everything else....

do you ever feel like you grew up not really loving your home town or state, and that only after you leave for a long time do you realize that you took it all for granted? that you never really appreciated everything it was offering you until all these years later? that’s how i feel whenever i visit utah and go on a hike by a waterfall or drive up into the mountains on a little road through a forest of pines or aspens… my family camped regularly in the beautiful outdoors while i was growing up, and our backyard was literally a stunning mountainside, but somehow i usually just always complained whenever we went on a hike or out to explore when i was little....

so many photos from our lake trip! can’t believe this place is less than a two hour drive from the city. it was the perfect send off to summer, as we crossed a few last things off our family’s summer bucket list while there. first and foremost, josh’s only item he contributed to said bucket list… to “jump in a lake.” i sat on the little sand beach beside the lake with both babies one afternoon watching him swim out into the middle of the lake, and swim freely, occasionally diving off the diving board and jumping, cannon balling and diving into the lake so many times....

tips for finding cheap airline tickets for family travel!

one of my most frequently asked questions these days is around finding deals on airfare, especially since we are a family of 5 (and 5 tickets add up!!!!) but have gotten the hang of finding cheaper airfare to destinations around the world, which has honestly become one of josh’s and my favorite pastimes. of course, what one considers a cheap airline ticket will vary from one person to the next, and i think we have an advantage living in new york city which is a big hub for many international airlines, but i do think it’s possible to find cheap tickets no matter where you are and where you want to go....
