apple picking has to be one of my favorite things about autumn! crisp tart apples pretty much mean sweater weather and colorful leaves are around the corner. it also means most of our conversations revolve around halloween costume choices (which change with three small children every couple of hours) and talk of halloween gets me all sorts of excited because it means my favorite favorite favorite time of year is basically here....

one of our favorite family traditions is to go apple picking in the fall!  we went up to silverman’s farm in connecticut as a family and had a great time running around, picking apples, picking rocks (samson) and petting all the sweet animals they have on the farm. i was so surprised how few apples remained on the trees, but because of the weather this year, they said their apple season came quickly....

last week, we went apple picking up at maskers orchard with our sponsor, sweetgreen. their october salad features apples sourced locally which we are thrilled about because eleanor and samson are pretty much obsessed with apples these days.   the orchard was probably the most beautiful i’ve visited and the entire morning felt like the perfect way to usher in autumn as a family....

on saturday we drove out to the homestead farm in maryland and picked apples and pumpkins together. while eleanor hasn’t been a big fan of applesauce (gosh darn those solid foods, we’ll have a break through moment one of these days i sure do pray and hope) she was in complete heaven chomping on apples the entire time in the back of our wheel barrow....
