eleanor interviews me all about my book!

Quite possibly one of my favorite experiences ever took place a few months ago in a recording studio in downtown Phoenix when my nine-year-old daughter Eleanor (though she’s ten now!), interviewed me all about my book, A Coat of Yellow Paint! When I first asked Eleanor if she might want to do something like this, she cut me off as before I even finished asking with an emphatic, “YES! Definitely! I would LOVE to do that, Mama.” I was a little taken aback, although I’m not sure why. Maybe I was projecting my own nervousness around interviews onto her thinking she’d want to sit with it and think it over for a few days, like I probably would have wanted to do.

We sat across the table from one another in the sound booth- my hands clasped in front of me as Eleanor pulled a notebook from her lap onto the table. The girl came prepared and I love her for it. Watching her lead this interview and ask heartfelt questions (with a touch of comic relief she definitely does not get from me), this moment with Eleanor is something I’ll forever cherish. Also- I think she might have a future in journalism. ;)

The just under twenty-minute interview with Eleanor is included in the audiobook of A Coat of Yellow Paint, but for a limited time, when you purchase the hardcover of A Coat of Yellow Paint, you can download the bonus interview file! Simply email your book purchase receipt to [email protected] to redeem the download today! With Mother’s Day around the corner, I thought this might be a fun added bonus to anyone who might be thinking of gifting the hardcover book to a Mama in their life!

Thank you again for the support you have shown this past week! I hope you enjoy listening to this little interview as much as Eleanor and I enjoyed recording it!

I just listened to your audiobook and the interview with Eleanor while driving back home to meet my new niece, and it was ALL so, so wonderful! So many of your essays moved me to (good) tears and it was one of those listens I just didn’t want to stop. My own four kiddos are around the same ages as yours (my last was born a month after your twins), and after this disconnected year I could not believe how comforting and encouraging it was to have my own experiences and thoughts experienced and thought by another mama far away.

And Eleanor- what a star!! She absolutely rocked being an interviewer- get that girl a podcast! Good job, and keep up the storytelling, both of you!

You were already a success just by being yourself, Naomi. Im sure this will be a great success, too! :) Blessings!

I just finished listening to your book and I really loved the interview with Eleanor. I have been following your blog since I was in high school yearbook class with a few girlfriends. I remember we were so excited when you announced your pregnancy with Eleanor! We all still follow you to this day. Even though I am not a mom, I really enjoyed hearing more about your story and I can’t even imagine how many emotions come with publishing a book of vulnerable, personal moments. I really think this is a meaningful path forward– the more you dig into the more vulnerable moments, the more focused in I am on your stories. I know that is HARD, but I think you are really charting a wonderful path into that realm. Haters will hate, but there are so many people who do want to hear about those harder moments, because that is what connects and resonates. Best wishes in the future and I hope we can hear more of the tone in your book everywhere!
