photos and a video from tubing with family!

we met up with two of my sisters and their husbands over the weekend for some quality family bonding time and to go tubing all together with the kids at campgaw mountain in new jersey! everyone had a great time, but i think josh probably had the best time of all… if anything, just watch the last clip in the video below. you’ll see what i’m saying. :)

growing up, when my sisters and i were little, our drive way to our house was really steep and somewhat long, and my dad would build the best sledding hills and luge runs in the winter months with us. it was one of my favorite things about winter so it was fun to introduce the kids to this type of sledding over the weekend. and this is the kind of safe-sledding i can get behind with little ones since there are lanes and lots of room to slow down at the end! did you guys know that i was actually in a sledding accident when i was little and had to get stitches on my wrist and also surgery on my lower lip? it didn’t happen on my driveway, but on a different road in my neighborhood growing up that had the nickname ‘suicide hill’ in the winter months. even so, i’m still such a fan of sledding. we all took turns waiting at the bottom of the hill with conrad who wasn’t tall enough to sled, but he didn’t seem to mind since spinning in circles was giving him mad giggle attacks.

once there was a snowman!

they pull the tubes up the sides of the hill by attaching them to a rope pulley.

can you see samson?!

watching playback of a little video shot on josh’s phone.

when we were all getting in the car to drive back to the city, eleanor kept asking uncle nelson for “one more hug!… one more hug!” as we said our goodbyes. it was so sweet.

This looks like so much fun! Did you drive to Campgaw Mountain? We’re also looking for quick trips outside of the city (but without a car!) and this looks like so much fun!

    • TAZA

I’m disappointed that you didn’t touch on the women’s march at all. This was a historic moment and I was surprised you wouldn’t at least mention it. Especially since you have a daughter.

  7. Jessica

Fun!!! Josh is a nut! Conrad is adorable!! My 2 & 4 year olds laughed at both of them while watching this. Thank you for bringing smiles to our faces this morning!

  8. Erin D.

Love all the pictures/video (as always)!! Looks like a really fun day!!

  9. Ashley

What an excellent video, Josh is hilarious! A big kid at heart! What a beautiful family, fun winter memories to cherish. Thank you for sharing love your positivity!

  10. Kate

I am a little curious about your position on the Woman’s March. Is it a deliberate decision not to discuss politics on your blog? Thank you!

  11. Julie

Check out the Berkshires in MA! I think it’s about 2-3 hours from the city but beautiful in the winter with plenty of activities like this one.

Looks like so much fun! I am not a skier myself, but I have always wanted to go tubing. We live in Boston, so NH and Vermont are wicked close by and we have gone to a few mountains up that way. North Conway, NH might be a far drive for you but its a really sweet little town with some great ski mountains/resorts and indoor waterparks to break up the cold.

Curious – where are you from/where did you grow up?

  14. Katy

Such beautiful shots and looks like so much fun! It’s a bit further afield but we are in England and are going up into the Scottish Highlands for some snowy fun soon – this has totally got me excited even more so!

  15. Conrad is too cute with his red hat and the green tube! I haven’t gone sledding in so long :o The last time my friends made an attempt was on a hill on campus after a snow storm, and we used a pizza box :P -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

the clip of Samson and Conrad holding hands in their snow suits reminds me of Ralphy and Randy in A Christmas Story!

  20. Jen

So fun! I love that one of Eleanor peeking out of the tube. It’s been so fun to watch her grow from back when you guys lived in DC. She’s like she has the best, happiest personality!

  21. Marisa Looney

Conrad looks just like Santa in the book “Little Santa” by Jon Agee!

  22. Saleh

Ahh this looks like so much fun! The babies, and the kids at heart, look like they had a blast. Adding something new to my “must try” list!

  23. Rachel Simmons

    Eleanor’s hat?

  24. Anna

You are so adorable with your kids :) They will be amazing adults having such loving and funny parents. Your videos always make me smile.

Wishing you and your family all the best :)

  25. Dove

    Loved the video & photos.

When I got on my phone this morning, I ditched my usual routine of checking the news or hopping on Facebook to see what everyone is up to. I thought, “I wonder if there’s a new post on Naomi’s blog.” Why? Because I needed a bit of a break from all the post-inaugural talk and lecturing and soapbox speeches. Thanks for providing a little spot on the internet where I can simply enjoy a family story.

  26. Carley

i love how you speak to your children…always very respectful and as if they are adults.. you never seem to patronise them!

  27. Renee

Hi, Taza – I love this! I know my husband and son would too! One question, where is E’s double pom pom hat from??

  28. Hahah! That looks really really fun :D I enjoyed looking at Josh’s enthusiasm.

  29. Amanda

Hey Naomi! I’m trying to find this answer in older posts but can’t 🙈 What apps do you use for videos?? Taking a family vacation and I want to do a video of our trip similar to the ones you have done set to music! But have no idea where to start…. 😬 Thanks!!!! Hope you’re feeling better!
