new “let’s chat!” video!

josh and i filmed a new “let’s chat” video (see all of them on my youtube channel here.) we talk about a few things we’ve found to have really strengthened our family life together (like how to make the best of our time together, being mindful of how we engage with others and ourselves around the kids, praying together out loud or building a safe place to express gratitude, and complimenting the things one does well regularly.) there are other things we wanted to get to, but of course this video is already 16 minutes long (sorry!). i know it’s lengthy but i think we get to some of the really good stuff towards the end.

would love to hear more from you guys about other topics you’d like to have us chat about! we hope to do more of these (and promise to find a quieter place next time we’re filming.)

what sorts of things have you found help bring your family together? always love hearing your ideas and trying out new tips or tricks you guys might be willing to share. thanks for watching!

ps. wearing this star and moon sweater and this lipstick in shade pink me up.

  1. I’m in love with your blog! Thank you for sharing!

Sweetest and most inspiring video I have seen in a long time! I wasn’t sure if this video would be for me because I am not a parent yet. I am so glad I chose to watch it anyway. Josh words about being kind to one another whether it be our own family (I loved what Naomi added that sometimes we are meanest to the people we love most and know best – sad but true!), our friends or strangers on the street are a reminder we all should hear on a daily basis. This world needs a lot more kindness and I am thankful for you and the way you use your voices to speak up for what you believe in!

  3. Love!

We are taking a 10 hour road trip tomorrow with our three and I told my husband we are making a video during the drive…dont think he’s sold yet ;)

  4. Sara

Parents like you are the reason there is hope for this dark world. You are such an inspiration for me, in my parenthood journey. Thank you for your vulnerability. Josh, you made me cry and want to keep trying to be a better parent everyday. The world needs more parents like you both.

  5. Jess

The world would absolutely be a better place if all kids heard kind words before bedtime and in their lunch bags. You both are amazing, and a true inspiration to this new mama! Xo!

  6. Cait

Oh my word. You guys are such an uplifting family and couple. I fee the same way but have been majorly struggling and it’s an encouragement to keep pressing on for the family life we need and the environment my kids need from me. Love following you! And I love the videos.

  7. I am in love with your blog!!!! I am from Germany! We have so much in common!
I hope you look at mine. There is a translation button on the right side.
    Thank you!

Thank you so much for that video. You two are so inspiring. I love your blog so very much. I started folowing when i fell pregnant ( during your pregnancy with Conrad). I use to be a professional dancer and i love seeing you dance and jump around NY.

May God bless you and your family in this new year.

Sending love all the way from South Africa ☀️

  9. Not sure if you guys will even see this I’m a bit late to the party! But I’ve been following you guys since before you even had Eleanor and my gosh this video made me love you even more than I already did! Seriously, this is exactly the way I want to raise my children and you guys are serious couple goals! But in all seriousness, I love how honest and heartfelt you both are and as a family, it gives me hope for this world.
    Lots of love

  10. katie

thank you for reminding me to be more mindful. its so easy to get caught up in my own stress and emotions and even easier (unfortunately) to take it out on my kids and husband. giving them daily affirmations is something i will definitely take with me. the daily praying and constant awareness of what we are grateful for is another amazing thing you are teaching your kids. that is something we really need to focus on, especially in this world. :)

  11. joana david

hi, just wanted to say that i lovedthe honesty of this video. the love you have for your children and the way you are teaching them to became good and loving people is very inspiring.
thanks for sharing and being so true.

  12. Briel K.

Aww, this video is so sweet. Thank you for sharing with us! Josh, you totally made me cry! Your kids are lucky to have you both! :)

  13. Julie

So sweet and kind. A beautiful message to share with others. Thank you.

  14. Katie

Thank you xxx You guys make me feel so positive and inspired

  15. REQUEST! I remember you doing a tutorial on how you style your bangs — but I’d love to see a full video on how you do your hair. Starting with it just washed (still wet) – whether or not you comb/brush it – do you towel dry – what products you use – do you blow dry right away or let air dry overnight? – etc. Also, what texture your hair is – thin, fine, thick, course, whatever.

It always looks so good down – that slightly messy but really put together look. I’d love to see how you achieve it

  16. Brooke P.

I never really comment on social media but I just got around to watching your most recent video post and it was just what I needed to hear today. I have five young kids and I have been praying about how I can better show my love for them to them. This was an answer to my prayers, thank you.

  17. Erin D.

I’d love to see a “home tour’ video… your home look beautiful and I guess I’m just super nosy!!!

  18. Amanda Blair

This is was so uplifting! Kindness and love are so needed in this world and I LOVE that you two are so passionate about teaching your kids these values.

Can I also just say, Josh, you are a real man. What a beautiful example to set for you children.

    Thanks for sharing guys!

  19. Meagan

Such an inspiring video. Walked away with so many sweet and valuable lessons. Thank you! I would love to hear about your marriage/relationship philosophies. What are some important things you do to make sure your relationship remains strong?

  20. Erin Pierce

I’ve been reading your blog for years, but loved this video so much! I’ve loved watching my husband become a father, and josh was adorable!

  21. Sophie

    Dear Josh and Naomi

I love following your family and your life. I’ve never commented on any blog post before, but after watching your latest video it’s impossible not to. Thank you for your beautiful words! I’m deeply touched and inspired to work even harder to be a good person to the people who surround me.

You touch lives around the globe.

    Love from Denmark

  22. Emma Adams

This was so lovely. I love seeing how your family has grown and continued to develop even lovelier of the past few years. I may go a few months here and there without following along but I always come back. Keep doing y’all’s thang!
Great sweater, too! Ugh too good!

  23. Awe, you guys are the sweetest! You are so spot on with how you compliment your kids. Our words to our children are profound – and I’ve always heard/read that you should repeat and talk about the things you want your kids to do more of/say more of and not dwell on the negative things you don’t want repeated. You guys are wonderful to share your hearts with us!

  24. Lindy

Hey! I’ve been a long time follower of the blog and am loving the videos! Maybe you could do one on traveling with littles! (I know you’ve blogged about the topic before.) Also maybe one about moving to NYC/and or going to college in the city.

  25. Emily Langer

I am in a committed relationship but children are a far away dream right now, but I SO look up to you guys in the way that you parent and are intentional with your three littles! Even in random instagram posts, I can see your love and intention for them and each other. Warms my heart! Thank you for sharing :)

Also, I am really interested in your 2017 resolutions! You guys inspired me to try to go added-sugar free, and I lasted for about a month lol. But I’d love to here what you guys are challenging yourself with this year! I personally am just trying to do no soda all year. Wish me luck ;)

  26. Courtney Savage

I’ve been a long time follower and rarely comment but this video meant so much to me. It reminded me of my parents and the love and life lessons they have taught me through the years, and makes me excited to parent someday. Thanks for putting yourselves out there and for always being so real! It’s greatly appreciated.

  27. Vanessa

I want to thank you so much for your blog. I’ve been following for a while and never commented but this vlog was so touching. Thank you for being so honest. I’m from Malta and I just feel that parents here need to hear this and need to learn to fall in love with their children all over again the way you two are so obviously crazy about your kids. Thank you for this honestly :)

  28. Alexa

I have been following you since wayyy back in the beginning, and I remember you and Josh deciding your very first married Christmas to start your own traditions then, rather than later. I’d love to hear more about that decision and balancing your extended families, especially when it comes to holidays and living far from both sets of grandparents. I’m a newlywed and this is our current challenge! I’d love to hear your perspective — you guys have always seemed so good about establishing yourselves as your own family. Thank you!

  29. claire

naomi and josh! this was the sweetest video! thank you so much for sharing. i had tears in my eyes watching and listening to josh and then to you saying how much you love him. you guys are doing such a standup job. so many hugs to you both.

  30. You married a great one Naomi! What Josh was saying brought me to tears, and I don’t even have kids of my own! Such heartfelt thoughts – thanks for sharing this guys!

  32. This was by far the most beautiful post you have ever done. Im crying right now because this was so true, inspiring and beautiful. Thank you!!!

I would love to know what do you guys do to stay calm when its chaos? Withthree kids you must have lots of tools and tips? I know you say you prob most times avoid to get to that but sometimes i find it so hard and stressful when they scream, or i have to repeat 50 times i lose it easily and i hate losing control of my voice and attitude. How do you do it?

  33. I’m a little late to the party having just watched the video this morning, but hearing Josh’s talk about notes with Eleanor had me all choked up. I think that is the most beautiful gift you can give your children to believe in themselves and to know that they are loved and can give love. My parents did that for me and I’m so beyond grateful now as an adult, as I’m sure E, S and C are and will be one day. I don’t have kids yet, but I know that if my husband and I do we both agree that those things are at the very core of raising a human being. Thank you for sharing, caring and being so truly authentic.
