girlfriends and lip balm and chocolate, oh my!

i don’t know how i got so lucky in the girlfriend department, but i’m surrounded by some pretty incredible women in my life both here in new york and also girlfriends who live elsewhere around the world that i still feel really close to even when we aren’t in the same few blocks radius. they are women who aren’t just inspiring in the ways they conduct themselves with their family life or careers, but they are often doing good and serving people around them (usually under any public radar), always speaking kind words about one another and others and regularly leave me feeling inspired to do something better or try something new or just anxiously awaiting the next time we can get together.

i am the worst at talking on the phone (does anyone else panic when they hear their phone ring?!) and i’m working on being better at texting people back promptly! but that aside, i want to be better at making sure the women in my life know how much i appreciate their daily texts or voicemails and random gifts for no reason at all and i want to be a better friend that checks in  often, takes notice of and compliments things they do well or say, because i know from being on the receiving end just how much it can make a day, or week, honestly.

i went to a movie a few weeks ago with friends and left the movie theatre with three different little gifts from three beautiful women i was like, “wow. this was at the movies?! i need to up my girlfriend game.” haha! with valentine’s day around the corner, i think it’s the perfect excuse to take note of all the people you love in your life, and celebrate them.

i partnered with farmacy beauty to send a few of their sweet lips gift sets to some of my favorite ladies. in addition to carrying some of my favorite lip balms (they come in apple rosemary strawberry basil and lavender mint flavors), the sets include three custom chocolate bars in matching flavors from brooklyn based chocolatier raaka. both companies have incredibly high values when it comes to their commitment to ethical farming and creating products with the highest quality ingredients. this special collaboration between farmacy and raaka is a really good one!

the lip balms by farmacy beauty are seriously some of my favorites. first of all, they taste amazing (and i know you shouldn’t be eating your lip gloss, but you know, it’s a major plus), and they leave your lips hydrated. it also has their patented echinacea GreenEnvyTM in the formula which is what farmacy is known for, as it contains a natural antioxidant called cichoric acid that they say helps protect the skin’s collagen.

also please note, it wasn’t until i pulled out my wrapping paper that i realized just how color coordinated everything was getting. the amount of peach i am currently hoarding in my closet is crazy. it’s almost outdoing my yellow section.

wrapped in twinkle lights and a heart sticker for good measure! you can find the sweet lips set by farmacy beauty right here if you’d like to check them out! and here’s to all of us reaching out to our girlfriends we so admire and appreciate with just a text or phone call or even a simple email.

happy almost valentine’s day, friends! and thank you to farmacy beauty for sponsoring this blog post.

p.s. for those who have asked, my peach sweater is from here in the orange motif color.

Can you tell me what color nail polish you’re wearing? I’ve been searching for that exact shade!

    • TAZA

i’m so sorry i don’t know the name! it’s a gel color by CND from my nail salon and they use their own numbering system instead of names there.

  11. Amy

looking for the nail polish color, too! spill the beans :) haha!

    • TAZA

it’s a gel color from my salon! they use a number system there so i don’t know the proper name. but i feel like it’s really close to essie’s ballet slippers (i used to do that one a lot, but always three coats!)

  12. As I was looking at the pictures, I was like “why is that sparkling? Is it the flash reflecting on sequins?” And I kept strolling back up to compare. But no! they are legit twinkle lights!!! They are amazing. Where did you find them?!?!?! I’m trying to get better at talking to/texting back too :)

    • TAZA

aren’t they so fun? i found them at urban outfitters!

  13. What a cute idea! I know my girlfriends would be thrilled to receive these. The gorgeous packaging to fun lip kits!

  18. You’re lucky to have so many close girlfriends! It gets harder to keep those kinds of relationships going as we get older and everyone is so busy and/or spread out all across the country. :)

    • TAZA

it really does! i don’t feel like i actually have a tons and tons of close girlfriends, but as i’ve gotten older and realize how much time family takes up and other things i prioritize, you realize just how important and special even those few close girlfriends are. and how much you need them! it’s like you realize you don’t need a million “kind of acquaintance type friends”, but just a solid handful of real girlfriends that love you no matter what! it’s one of the best lessons i’ve learned the past few years.

  19. alexis

I have the same issue with the phone! Was is that about??? Must have something to do with running around behind my littles all day…

  20. Carol

LOVE this idea!! Thanks for sharing. Also, where are the lights from? Have a fabulous day!

    • TAZA

thank you! they are from urban outfitters!

  21. I love how you wrapped the gift! I’m sold by the chocolate :3 I don’t usually do anything for Valentine’s Day, but I think I might bake cookies for friends this year! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

    • TAZA

mmmmm. homemade cookies are the best kind of gift!

  22. Lola

A silly question, but could you share where your pillows are from on your couch?

    • TAZA

not silly at all! they are from anthropologie!

  23. Megan

This is adorable!I love sending gifts to my mom, sister and girlfriends. Valentine’s Day is so much more than just celebrating romantic relationships.

Where did you get your wrapping supplies (especially those cute little twinkle lights to wrap around the box)?

    • TAZA

thank you, megan! the wrapping paper is from flying tiger and i found the twinkle lights at urban outfitters!

  24. These photos are so darling. Moving away from my girlfriends was the hardest part about moving form Texas to California. One should never take their best girlfriends for granted! Also… Love this sweater! ♡

Great post- so true as we get older and build families that time for a social life dwindles a bit. What a sweet idea- inspired me to email my girlfriends and get together for a valentines dinner.

  26. Erin D.

Your so pretty!! Your eyelashes are to die for!!

  27. Anna

Is is weird that your friends see their gifts on the blog before they get them? Or do they feel strange since the gifts are free and you get paid to give them?

  28. Pam

Oh gosh, you’re just too sweet! Loving these pics and all the valentine’s day inspo <3
    Have a lovely weekend, hun!

  29. Jen

i don’t usually leave comments ever on ANYTHING but thought you should know that i just adore you blog. Having kids alone is challenging, let alone in New York City! I just love your zest for LIFE and appreciation for all that this big city has to offer and how you take the challenges in stride. You are an inspiration to me and many other moms in this city of ours!

  30. Nicole

I always love your hair. I look better with bangs like yours but don’t like dealing with the flat greasy bangs. You seem to have similar hair type as I do (fine), and I’m wondering if you have tips or certain products that help you with this so you don’t have to pin them back halfway through the day. Thanks!

  31. Sandy

One of your sweetest posts ever! Girlfriends are treasures!

  32. Mahee Ferlini

This is adorable, thank you for sharing!

  33. Emilie

Hi! I live in NYC. I actually meet you in CP months ago! :) I love your fun living room. It’s so happy! I would love to know where you found the taxi die cut/print above your sofa. Please share!
