earlier this week, we went on a double date with good friends of ours and took a trapeze class together! i did it for the first time a few years ago, but having a full lesson with josh this time, and our friends, was so much fun!
i know i’ve said this before, but i am afraid of heights. i hate being up high where i can fall because i always think of the worst case scenario in those situations and i panic like a mad woman. but somehow with trapeze (if you can get beyond climbing up the ladder part, which just might be the most terrifying part of the whole thing) it isn’t so scary. i think it’s because you’re strapped into a harness with ropes attached so if you do fall, they can catch you straight away and bring you down slowly. and once i do brave the high climb and jump off the platform, the dancer in me gets so excited to be out there because i honestly feel like i’m dancing through the air!
experiencing “the catch” (where you’re swinging upside down by your legs and someone else catches you by your hands) is one of the most incredible feelings! everyone needs to feel that! you feel like you’re flying on top of the world. you can see a video i posted on instagram of “the catch” here.
anyway, here are a couple of photos from our date! and by the way, josh showing up in that old rowing uniform had me cracking up the entire time. because of course! and also, it’s why i love him.
^^^prepping for the leg split is probably the second scariest part for me, after climbing the ladder.^^^
^^^this is my super scared/super excited face. ha!^^^
^^^you can see a video of josh doing this “straddle whip” thing here.^^^
wooo hooo! after this last trapeze lesson, i’m feeling like i wanna conquer diving and learn how to properly dive into water. i’ve never done it. did you know i can’t jump into a pool without holding my nose, either? that’s also on my list of things to figure out. the super important stuff, of course! i’ll keep you posted! ;)
Woah! I didn’t even know you could do something like this! Looks so cool!
This looks so incredibly fun! Is that at/near Chelsea Piers?

This is such a cool date idea –Hanna Lei
what a fun date! It looks amazing and scary for someone that’s also afraid of heights. Oh and I have to plug my nose when I jump in the water too. Happy 4th!
this is awesome! reminds me of a sex and the city episode. you guys are so fun!
This is such an exhilarating activity! The catch looks like so much fun. Also, what a beautiful view of the city.
Happy Friday

i’m terribly afraid of heights but have always wanted to do this! do they have someone controlling the harness/cables (don’t know what those are, sorry!) the entire time? or do they restrict at certain points of falling? so cool.
Looks like so much fun! But I’m super scared of heights so I’m not sure if I could have forced myself to do it!
Holy Flexible! I’ve always wanted to try this!
that looks awesome!!
OMG that looks amazing! I could never ever do that! Beautiful!
This is the best date idea ever! There’s nothing quite as exciting as swinging like that!
That looks like a lot of fun!
You look so fit, even after three babies. I would love a post on your workout routines and how you (and Josh) manage staying fit and healthy in between family life. I find it hard to find the time with just one child.
How awesome!!! I would love to do something like that!

I’m the same way about diving while holding my nose! haha!

You got to work with Kenan! (He’s my favorite instructor at TSNY) Beautiful split :) I agree, the ladder is the scariest part!!
Ahh! This looks so cool! I would love to try sometime!
Hello.
I have written on here before mentioning that I am spending the first week of November in NYC with my fiancé for our honeymoon(I don’t expect you to remember me – don’t worry!). It will be his birthday on the 5th and I’d love to surprise him with some exciting plans. I have watched and read your guides, but I was wondering if you had any favourite insider hot spots that an artist, lover of history and good meaty food would enjoy. Or a restaurant with the perfect NYC view.
I Love your blog and read it daily. We cannot wait to use your guides to explore New York!
Thank you,
Dora, xx

I have a weird strategy for not having to hold your nose while jumping or diving into water – sounds so strange but it works for me! The split second before you hit the surface of the water, start blowing out of your nose. Keep blowing for the quarter second it takes for you to fall into the water (you’ll end up blowing a few bubbles). Because you’re blowing out, there’s no way for water to get in. Like I said, odd, but maybe it’ll help. :)
I adore trapeze and TSNY! Been flying with them for the past 6 years and it’s seriously my happy place
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Looks like soooo much fun! Kind of reminds me of my wish to do some “flying yoga” asap. :)
