dear weekend, let’s do it again!

dear springtime in the city, you produce such smiling strangers and colorful blossoms and when we walk around new york on the sunny side of the sidewalk, i like you so.

dear portrait lens on my camera, after months of neglecting you, busting you out this weekend felt better than ever.

dear mamouns, how did you run out of your cucumber salad?!

dear ice cream trucks parked all over the city, you don’t even need any music to lure the children. my kids can spot you blocks away. i’m still not sure how i feel about it.

dear new sculpture exhibit being put up at madison square park,  i could have stood in awe underneath you for a solid hour. you are fascinating.

dear new york city, i can’t even remember how rude you were in january and february (and even march and april for a while there), CAUSE I FREAKING LOVE YOU IN MAY!!!!!!

(ps. i used to write lots of little letters on this blog way back when. in like 2009? and 2010? long before babies and a move back to new york and i don’t know, didn’t intend to start writing one today, but they are so fun to write sometimes! kind of like happy lists, little letters. i just like them.)

and some photos from the weekend…

have a wonderful week, friends!

ps. the lipstick i’m wearing is heatwave by nars. eleanor’s t-shirt from crewcuts and samson’s is from hanna andersson. sunglasses by karen walker. josh’s sunglasses by ray ban.  kiddos tennis shoes by new balance. my hat is an oldie by hat attack (similar here.) baby wrap c/o sakura bloom.

  1. Goodness those pictures are beautiful! Especially love the one of E with the ice cream, she is growing up to be such a gorgeous young lady!

Also, when I was sick one week I went through ALL your past posts (oops haha) and I love these little letters posts!

This post makes me want to move to NYC even more than I ever did. Thanks for sharing Taza :)

  2. Yay I love the little letters! Glad to see them make an appearance again. The weather this weekend was absolutely amazing, I hope it stays! I’m super jealous of those ice cream cones with rainbow sprinkles, which are my all-time favorite.

By the way, these pictures came out soo good, How did you learn? Ever since I got my Canon in December I’ve been just messing around with it and using automatic settings but I really need to take a class or tutorial online so I can actually get the quality my camera is supposed to produce.

    • TAZA

i think it’s all just about going out and taking pictures in manual even if it scares you. it’s pretty easy to pick up once you try it out a few times. i’m still learning as i go but it was such an exciting moment when i finally stopped using automatic settings and just went for it. you can do it!

  3. Mollie

Your photos are gorgeous! These posts of yours always make me miss New York! Lovely family as well!

    xoxo Mollie

I’ve been following your blog for several years now and it’s still as exciting for me as it was the first day I stumbled upon it! Kudos to you for that… May you and your family always be happy ;-)

  13. Claire

A very good post as usual, we feel good after reading your blog Naomi!
Oh and I didn’t follow your blog yet when you did these little letters but I love it! And a special thanks for this : “do we really have to shave our legs so often? i’m tired of feeling guilty about rarely shaving. let’s stop this madness.” in the 28th january 2010’s one. So good to read.

I really hope you will be continuing blogging when I’ll be a mom for all the good advices and all the good vibes you share. I just wanna say that I’m atheist and at first when I learned that you were LDS I was wondering how much it would appear in your blog (you totally have the right, I’m not saying that, I’m very into freedom) but your blog is really good and can be read no matter which religion or non-religion we belong. I thought it was good to say that. So thanks you again Naomi.

All the best for you and your beautiful family.

    Best regards from France

  14. Ozlem

Random tip (sorry to be that person) but, for the ring sling, make sure his knees are up a bit higher.

    Love the ice cream pictures!

    • TAZA

      thank you for the tip!

  16. Sonya

Love these pictures. I really liked the canon tips you gave us bloggers in past posts they really helped. I was wondering and this might sounds silly if you’d do a post about having your picture taken in public? I have the hardest time taking candid pictures but you always have beautiful candid shots! Thanks!

  17. Amy

The photos are extra spectacular today. I’d say it’s worth getting that lense out again!

  18. I love your happy lists and little letters! When I first found your blog I did some archive reading – they’re the best!

  19. The photos of the farmers market in Union Square make me really miss it there! I can’t wait to be back and shopping there again.

  20. Ola

Oh yes we tend to forget what was bad very quickly but I guess that ‘s good. Otherwise we would be very miserable. ..:)

Lovely pics, ny looks amazing but not as amazing as you guys!

  21. mary

your clogs have been appearing in pictures lately. where are those from? they’re lovely.

I share your thoughts about May, spring is so wonderful around here in Berlin too!!

    Have a good week!

  23. Sophie

I used to love your blog when it was more personal and didn’t feel like reading a magazine, so that’s why I’m so happy right now to see that you are bringing the little letters back. Keep it up and have a wonderful day :-)

  24. I absolutely enjoy reading you blog! Especially when you have such amazing pictures! These are so great they make me want to take a trip up to New York City soon! I hope to one day move to the city because I absolutely love it so, even though I have only been there once on a 3 day trip. Thanks for sharing such amazing sights of the city!!

  25. E

Where did Josh get is shirt? I have been on the lookout for a simple white button up for the summer months,

    • TAZA

it’s a polo oxford slim fit style from brooks brothers!

  26. Mparker

Oh E has the most darling braids! Beautiful photos!

  27. marie

Aaaww Samson and Eleanor are getting so adventurous! They’re so big now and it’s obvious that they’re active kids ;) I spent the weekend away from my hubby and kids to catch Backstreet Boys concert, and it was awesome! ;) I think it’s important to take a break from our little ones now and then, and just enjoy ourselves. :)

    • TAZA

      backstreet boys?! amazing!

  28. Wendi

THIS! Yes, THIS is the Taza I remember and love! Just real family shots with real, genuine thoughts on life. Keep ’em coming!

  29. Felisha

First of all – that lil belly in the first photo! OMG.

Second – word to the wise: being the only adult in the long line of toddlers and nannies by the ice cream truck is ALWAYS worth the wait. I had the same vanilla sprinkle cone in Central Park on Saturday as your kiddos and I’ve got no shame! :)

With that said, I love that in NYC, ice cream trucks can be found on ANY corner – no matter the time of day. What a wonderful city we live in.

  30. Aww I used to love your lists! These photos are so beautiful x

  31. Vanessa

I love your blog Taza and the little chunks of positivity it throws into my days.

Sending lots of love from Buenos Aires

  35. I love your blog so much! You’ve really inspired me to start my own blog and so I have done. I love reading about your families little adventures!:)

  36. Claudia Elizabeth

    Hi Taza,

You have a beautiful family!! Do you mind sharing the color of your sling & style of your Sakura sling?

    Xoxo, Claudia

    • TAZA

hi! it’s the chambray linen in black currant!

  37. Your NYC photos bring the magic right back since we moved back to Boston! There truly is nothing better than a beautiful spring/summer day in that city. Soak it all in. xo

  38. This post is so colorful. Conrad is cutest kid around. That picture of samson holding the rod and Eleanor with ice cream reminded me my own summer holidays as a kid.

    Hi Naomi!

This is my first time leaving a comment, but I just wanted to say that I love and appreciate your blog so much. I’m 18, so I feel like I’m a bit younger than the majority of your readers haha. But even though a lot of the posts about motherhood and such don’t really apply to me, I love checking in on your life through the beautiful photos you take and words you write. You have no idea how even something like reading about your favorite lipsticks brightens my day (or how much finding out you were pregnant with Conrad brightened my year!) You have such a beautiful spirit and I count you among the women who inspire me.

Thank you for all that you do and I hope that as you’re reading this, you’re doing well.
