there is only one chocolate chip cookie recipe we use around here, and it’s the one i grew up on. it’s the best one out there, and you won’t need another cookie recipe after this one, i promise. i thought i had shared it here before, but you know, i also misplace my keys and phone and bag and memory on a daily basis, so.

the recipe comes from the sweetest woman in my old neighborhood growing up, who i know as “sister cheever.”  she is the best. and everything she’s ever baked that i have tried has been crazy amazing. we made her cookies on a weekly basis at my home growing up, and even though josh isn’t into sweets and has sworn them off until christmas eve (weirdo), i still make them pretty often because i can’t help it.

world’s best chocolate chip cookie:

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 1/4 cups flour (give or take a little flour depending on your climate. just feel it as you go and make sure it’s not sticky.)
1 cup (or more!) chocolate chips
cream butter. add in sugars, mix.
add eggs and vanilla.
mix the dry ingredients separately in a large bowl. gradually mix into butter/ sugar mixture. add chocolate chips.
bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. makes about 2 dozen.

    Do you soften your butter ahead of time? My cookies never look this yummy! Any other suggestions or secrets?

      if i can remember to pull the butter out for ten minutes or so before i start, i do. but often i’m not that together. when i’m mixing the butter and sugar, i just mix it a bit more with a spatula to really combine the two and the butter softens on it’s own that way.

      my only other tip would be to still take them out of the oven when they are slightly gooey, they firm up as they cool off. it depends on how you like them though, but i like mine super soft and chewy. let me know how they turn out for you!

    When you refer to sugar, you mean the one that is white and granulated or to the powdered sugar.
    I’m from Perú, and here we have 3 tipes of sugar ( brown and granulated, white and granulated and powdered sugar), so please tell me whick ones do I have to use.

    Have you ever used a bar of chocolate (broken into chunks of course) instead of chocolate chips? The chocolate will actually be incorporate better since chocolate chips has a chemical that holds their shape.

    The chocolate chip recipe on allrecipes is basically this one, although they suggest dissolving the soda into warm water before adding to mixture… I made a batch from using that method lastnight – soooo good! I think the soda added to them that way may have puffed them up a bit, not as flat as I’m used to but more delicious than ever! If you ever try them that way let us know if they end up as puffy as mine did!

    I just made these and yes they are yummy, but you guys…..i have tried so many chocolate chip cookie recipes and there is NONE better than the recipe on the back of the nestles toll house semi sweet chocolate chips. They are seriously THE BEST. Call me crazy:)

    I loved these! If you take them out early enough and let them cool, you get that really perfect, gooey chocolate chip texture.Yum!

    For anyone who lives in continental Europe, where it’s difficult to get vanilla extract; I substituted vanilla sugar as always and it worked just as well!Just add a little less of the white refined sugar and it all balances out :)

    Quick silly question. When you say 3 1/4 cups of flour is that 3 cups plus 1/4 cup of flour or 3 scoops of 1/4 cups of flour?!
