happy new year! i figured there is no better way to kick off 2015 on this blog than with a few of the fantastic things eleanor and samson have been saying lately. (i’ve shared several eleanorisms here before, but at 2 1/2, samson has been cracking us up lately as well.) i just can’t get enough to these two right now (except around 5pm everyday, which is the most cursed hour around this place.) but there is never a dull moment around here and i’m constantly jotting down several silly things they say throughout the day to look back on and share with them someday. a few of my current favorites below….
eleanorisms:
while screwing a pretend screw into the wall with a toy screwdriver, eleanor says to herself, “i’m going to screw this up.”
“samson, when you have to go potty, you run really fast to the bathroom. or just follow me next time. i’ve figured it out.”
while i was still pregnant with conrad a few weeks ago, “mama, do you like ketchup?” (she knows i hate ketchup, but she still pushes it on me all the time.) me: “nope, not really.” eleanor: “well, maybe you should eat it anyway because did you know it has tomatoes in it? tomatoes would be good for the baby.”
while listening to taylor swift’s new song, welcome to new york with me, she frantically states “but the lights DO blind me! they DO blind me!”
while at the kitchen table together eating ice cream, eleanor announces, “i have to go potty!” she gets off her chair and begins running to the bathroom, then runs back towards the table to add, “mama, make sure my ice cream doesn’t melt!”
talking very quickly into my iPhone without taking a breath the other day, “siri, do you remember me? my name is eleanor. do you think my voice is beautiful? elllleaaaaaanoooorrr. it starts with an E. like elephant. your name siri is like syrup.”
samsonisms:
“i do it my OWN self.” — samson, all day everyday.
after samson goes into the bathroom and locks the bathroom door and doesn’t let us inside, eleanor says while knocking, “samson, why did you do that?” samson: “because i do that!” eleanor: “yeah, but why?” samson: “because this is what i do! i samson rex davis, ah-wight?”
samson hands me a little round and flat piece of play-doh (pretending it is food he made for me). “be careful mama, it is hot!” me: “mmm, it looks delicious. what is it?” samson: “umm, i don’t know. maybe a cowboy cookie?” me: what is a cowboy cookie?” samson: “i don’t know. it has chocolate chips in it though.”
“mama, eleanor and i fight because eleanor and i are fwwwwwuuuuuustrated.”
while holding baby conrad with me, he whispers to himself, “such a tiny boy.”
more eleanorisms HERE. photo strips from a day in november when we were at bubby’s and they decided they wanted their OWN photobooth pictures, not ones together. ;)
These are all so adorable and you can tell by what you’re saying that Samson is starting to get just that little bit older. It’s lovely to see how your kids are developing and starting to become their own people and say their own little things. x
This is just so cute !!!
You have adorable kids, dear Naomi :)

Too cute! I love those first little views on life. When my (now 13 year old!) daughter was three, we were driving in the car and she suddenly says very casually, “Mom,” yes honey? “Black goes with everything.” To which my husband leans over and whispers, “She’s going to be expensive.” To which she has lived up to. :)
Thanks for sharing.

HAHAHA! These were great! I’m not even a parent and these seriously cracked me up. I think my favorite was Eleanor with the T Swift lyrics. Thanks for sharing these gems!

I can’t wait for my son (who’s a year and a half) to start talking a lot more. I always crack up at the things your kids say. They’re adorable.

such sweet little bugs, I love these post! Also, I’ve been thinking of you this past week- I’ve been reading your blog for a couple years and you make life in the city so dreamy. We finally got our shot to explore city life, and went to Chicago for a bit. Let me say I have a whole new respect for you- traveling about with littles in tow takes some serious bravery and skill. We had the greatest time and loved it, but I’ll be glad to get back to the farm too!

Oh my goodness, they are TOO cute. I cannot wait until my son starts talking, because kids say the best things.

oh my gosh. i know this is silly but i wondered if you would ever mention taylor swift on this blog! :) haha so silly but i absolutely love her. would be just like E to make a taylor swift song even more fun.
these are SO cute! i waited for the day of possible samsonism posts! your family is so much fun.. and so funny ;)
love this and love samson doing it all himself – all day, everyday! but my heart really melted when he held his brother and said “such a tiny boy”. they’re both the coolest kids in the world. can’t wait to read what kind of personality conrad takes on.
I watched a TED talk once that said between the hours of 5pm and 7pm in their house is when everything gets frantic… so whenever our kids are wrestling or being chaotic… we always know its between 5 & 7
You have the most darling kids. I love reading these isms!
I remember when my daughters were this age. They said the cutest things, Made me smile everyday!
I when you post the ISMS! The mind of a toddler is something incredible and terribly funny.

They are so adorable, Reading this post make me laugh so loud! Thx :-)
Thanks for making me laugh! Before I became a mom I was never around small children that much. The one thing I never realized was how funny they can be! I love reading Eleanor and Samson’s comments, and it has made me actually think back and write down many of my own girl’s one liners. Happy new year to you and your lovely family!
Oh I love the bathroom one from Samson. So funny.
I’m 10 years older than my youngest sibling and one winter when she was about three we were driving home and she took off her winter hat. Her hair was so full of static and my best friend said teasingly, “I like your hair, Frannie.” In a beat she replied, “Thanks! That’s the way God made me!” It still makes me smile.

Hi Naomi, I just wanted to wish you guys a happy New Year, I’ve been following your blog since just before Samson was born, and it’s just so wonderful. I know we don’t know each other (although I feel like I know you through following your blog) but I just wanted to tell you that my husband and I are visiting New York in October 2015, all the way from Melbourne, Australia, and we are so excited. I’ve been showing him some of your NYC guides, and we can’t wait to check out all of your suggestions :) I hope you have a great year, and keep sharing your insightful posts!

Gosh, they’re so cute. Here’s love to Samson and Eleanor all the way from India! Happy 2015!

Love these! I’m really looking forward to what my own baby girl will come up with!
Haha! I have twin little ones that are almost two and we hear “Do it SELF!” all the time! :)
“Eet’s a eepopahtoemus. And da eepopahtoemus ees eating da cheese on da faces!”
That little gem happened just a few minutes ago as my daughter is busy coloring.. now the eepopahtoemus is eating a fish… anyway, thanks for the post and thanks for sharing the brightness of family. I’m a mom of three under five in Northern Manhattan, and most of the time I just feel like I stick out so much. I really appreciate how you share how great motherhood is and how beautiful life can be. I’m sure there are days when it’s hard, I know first hand how harsh living here can be and how demanding it is to have three babies, but I also know firsthand how exquisite this time of life is and how those little smiles and hugs can instantly light up any moment.
Anyway, thanks, and I hope you have a great day!
These are honestly my favorite posts! Such clever children you have there!

They both have excellent language skills – especially for their ages; you can tell that they are read to a lot! :)
Last week my boyfriend & I visited the Scandinavia House in NYC; have y’all been before? I ask because they had an EXCELLENT children’s area, which is free to the public, and very well done. :)
Many cheers,
Julia
Hilarious! I love little kids and to hear what their minds are thinking. enjoy these years with them!

There are such things as cowboy cookies! Imagine a oatmeal cookie with raisins, chocolate chips and m&ms. My best friend’s family made them all the time!
Kids are adorable! My son has recently named himself ‘toastie toast’ and he insists that we call him that! Very random :-)
Such adorable “isms.” Your house must be constantly ring with laughter.
These are so cute! I love listening to the things the little ones say. My son walks around with a little tea pot and tells everyone “milk, tea, honey!”. At only two he knows he likes his tea and how to order it
The Doctor Diva
I love these posts you do!!!! I can’t wait to hear what things my little one will say one day. It’s such a great idea to keep track of the things they say. Thank you so much for sharing and congrats on your new addition little Conrad!!!
