day six of the new year…

conrad01 conrad02the new year is off to a wonderful start! it’s definitely been a slow beginning for me with baby conrad here, but it’s nice to slow down a little as we get adjusted to life with our newborn. i’ve mostly been bra-less, and often covered in either breastmilk or spit up, but conrad and i have successfully gotten out of the apartment a few times to the playground or a restaurant or a walk with the family.  fresh air is like my best friend right now, so i’m trying hard to get out more.

i can’t believe it’s been a little over 3 weeks since conrad arrived! he already looks huge to me, not like a newborn.  he really likes his milk so there is this prominent double chin thing happening and i can’t get enough of the rolls of wrinkles around his neck or elbows and knees. he’s growing and changing a lot. it’s one of those things that is far more bitter than sweet for me.  i just wish the first weeks with a baby didn’t fly by as fast as they always do. i remember feeling this way with eleanor and samson as well.  it’s like this fast blur of nursing and spit up and diaper changes and hand washing and grateful prayers and tiny kisses and joyful tears all while you’re trying to nurse your own body back to health from giving birth and then before you know it your newborn is sitting up or running around and suddenly a full blown talking toddler! it’s just a lot for me to process when i’m so hormonal.

other huge milestones that have been happening around here include eleanor’s first sunday as a sunbeam! meaning she is officially in primary at our church for sunday school and no longer in nursery! (and side note, this is what i’m talking about. it feels like just yesterday i was meeting her for the first time at the hospital and now she’s a sunbeam turning 4 next month?! this is what i’m talking about, you guys.)  samson has been carrying his tiny guitar everywhere lately serenading his baby brother (see a video here) and today new york city received a soft white blanket of beautiful snow! it’s still snowing out right now actually, but i’ve only witnessed it from my window because it’s crazy cold and i still don’t have a bra on and a newborn is a nice excuse to stay inside and do nothing but cuddle him. also, parm has finally arrived on the upper west side and we’re pretty stoked about having our favorite chicken parm sandwich in our neighborhood.  so life is good. 2015 is great. even just on day 6…  looking forward to the rest of it.

Conrad what a cutie! I too am so excited for Parm to be in our neighborhood!

  2. Connie

I loved this post. We have a four (almost five) year old daughter and another little one on the way. I know what you mean about it feeling like it was yesterday when you brought home your first – it goes crazy fast! Thank you for highlighting the lovely things about having a newborn around (plus the braless days covered in milk!) it’s been so long for me (and we’re in such an easy routine now) that I’m actually completely nervous about having a new baby around again – or maybe it’s just that I’m worried about the endless nights of no sleep. In any case, it’s fun to follow along with you and get a preview of the times to come, your positive spin on parenting is always refreshing and inspiring. Take care :-)

THAT VIDEO OF SAMSON WITH THE GUITAR! My heart just about melted right there. Happy to hear life is treating you right – 2015 will be great.

P.S. Loving the updated new family photo of you!

  4. I feel you my little one is just shy of 4 months old and I am still covered spit up a lot of the time haha the growing is so bitter sweet. She looks huge to me now and I am so sad she won’t be this little forever but she smiles and giggles and it lights my whole world up.

I can totally relate, our second son was born a few weeks before yours and it’s like what you’re already lifting your head and bending your knees?! Crazy. Comgratulations on your new little one! And so glad I found your blog via IG a couple of months ago :) Happy New Year!

Really love this post even if it is just simple it’s nice to read about slower times too. You’re little family is usually always on the go so I’m sure a yummy newborn is the perfect excuse to slow down, I couldn’t imagine a better way to start the year. Also it makes me kind of sad E is turning four,… Haha Hope 2015 is a beautiful year for all of you in the Davis family. Lots of love for you guys & this little blog.

  7. Claire

Conrad is so cute! Happy new year to all your family, I wish you the best for 2015.

Just wondering, what is a sunbeam? It’s kind of a religious school? Sorry, just curious, I’m French and we are not so used of this kind of school except catholic ones.
I hope my question is not rude.

    Best regards from Paris.

o my! That description of newborn life is almost enough to make me insist on baby #4! You captured it perfectly. Enjoy your sweet babe while you can. My #3 is 10 months old this week and about to start walking. Of course I adore every minute of it but where has the time gone!

  9. Nancy

I love love love reading your blog every day! You are such an inspiring mom and wife! My little girl will be ONE is 2.5 months! Ah! Time, please slow down!

  10. Sarah

Awww Happy New Year to you and your family!!! Baby Conrad is so adorable!! I can’t believe Eleanor is going to be 4!! I’ve actually been reading your blog since you were pregnant with her – and I have to agree, time goes by WAY too fast. Even to me it seems like she was just born!! My own little ones are 2 1/2 and 16 months (both girls) and I’m just soaking in all the time I can with them. I know they’ll be off to school (or for that matter, college!!) before I know ::tear::

You’re such a great inspiration! Thanks for allowing us a peak into your life :)

  11. This is a very touching post. Samson is so funny and cute with his guitar. Enjoy this moments with your newborn Conrad.

  12. I am amazed at your ability to continue to write blogs with a newborn baby there to snuggle, I would be way too distracted. ;)

Your children’s names are darling btw.

  13. Sarah

Oh, he’s so sweet. He already looks so big and awake! I can see what you mean by time flying by. Happy New Year! Enjoy your beautiful snowy view!

  14. Bianca

There’s nothing better than a chubby baby! Happy New Year to you and your sweet family. Xo

  15. Xandi

Snow!! Lucky you…. Still waiting for it here in London, the kids are desperate for it to snow but it’s pretty mild still for this time of year. Fresh air is everyone’s best friend, makes such a difference if you even just go for a little walk round the block, but enjoy this down time with the baba, as you say, it goes all to quickly! x

Such a sweet, amazing, hazy, slightly crazy time. Can’t imagine what it must be like with two other littles running around! I loved your description, and I think it should take about five times as long as it does for them to grow too :)

  17. Dana

oh, wow. he looks so big. but soooo sweet. happy new year for you and your family.
it´s so sweet to read your text. because it sounds so soft. like walking in the snow.

Time definitely does fly by especially when it comes to our kiddos. My oldest is in her second year of college, and my youngest just turned five! That’s the only thing I don’t like about ringing in the new year…the fact that my kids grow one year older!

Enjoy the moments with your cute kids, and savor them every second!

It’s great to read such a heartfelt update of your family life. I love how you treasure those first weeks with a newborn and I cannot wait until me and my husband will be in the same phase as you guys. We actually spent our Christmas in NYC (we’re from Europe so it was our first trip to the US) and I absolutely loved the places you recommended in your NYC guide. thank you! greetings from Scotland!

  20. Zoe

I love this post and had to comment. Just thinking about you curled up looking out on the snow with Conrad is so lovely. Enjoy this time, like you say it goes fast. My little one is now 21 months and I have no idea where the time went. Enjoy!

  21. I say stay braless and warm indoors for as long as you can! ;) The time definitely seems to pass quickly when you have a newborn – or any kids at all for that matter! I can’t believe my eldest is 12 now! I still think he’s a baby.

Baby Conrad is looking so big! You’re right, they grow up so quickly. The days are long but the years are short! Glad your new year is off to a great start!

I feel the same way! My son just moved up to CTR 4 and I can’t believe it! I feel like he was born yesterday and now he’s this independent little boy who doesn’t even need me to walk him into preschool anymore. I wish they stayed tiny newborns for longer than just a couple weeks. Baby Conrad seems like such a sweetheart. Congrats! Soak it all up as much as you can!

  26. Aw! So so beautiful – your little ones are very lucky to have you. I love your share about doing grateful prayers in the midst of it all. So very important and beautiful.

    Warm Regards,

  27. love this! so happy for y’alls new, sweet addition!

  28. Those black and white photos are lovely and Conrad definitely seems to be growing up fast. I can imagine it’s very bittersweet, you no doubt picture Eleanor and Samson as still being Conrad’s age somehow!

  29. Tara

Ahhhh! Baby lust! I can smell it from here. It usually takes me 5 months to come out of my cloud of bliss and think about anything other than the most adorable thing on earth. And it’s so nice to have a baby in winter when you can snuggle inside and just be warm. I always feel guilty missing a sunny day. Enjoy the new one.

That was the sweetest video of Samson!!

  32. Sinead

Such a lovely post! I can’t wait to have children and posts like this make me even more excited and impatient to start a family of my own ;-)

  33. crystal

My boy officially moved up to sunbeams, too! I went and spied through the window and saw him volunteer to conduct the music : )

  34. hanna

He’s just too cute! –Hanna Lei

  35. Sarah-Louise

I’m just wondering…. how are you not wearing a bra???? isn’t your milk leaking everywhere? it’s always a big triumph for me when i get to stop wearing a bra to bed after like 7 months and my boobs have finally stopped leaking. so weird how everyone is so different

  36. Carli

Oh my goodness I can very much relate! Our little girl was born on December 12th and already it has been such a blur! I’m trying to savour every moment but between the breastfeeding, the bra-lessness (I feel you on that one haha!), the spit up, diaper changes, sooo many moments over overwhelming gratitude and the many hysterical crying sessions that have happened because I am so stinkin’ emotional, it just kind of feels like a blur. A really good blur, but one I wish would slow down just a touch :) Couldn’t agree with you more though, 2015 is already amazing. So happy for you and your family :)

  37. Liz

I’m loving the posts since Conrad was born. The new baby energy is giving your blog an informal, warm, and energized tone. thanks for sharing.

  38. Hannah

Wow! It’s amazing to think that just three weeks ago you were a family of fours and now you have five. The way you speak about your children is os beautiful and so sweet. It is so clear how much you love them. I cannot wait to have children!

Thank you for sharing your family with us Naomi!

i know just what you mean. my daughter turned 3 months yesterday and i get a little sad on her monthly birthdays, shocked at how life’s sweetest moments seem to make time pass by fastest.

i found this video today and thought you would enjoy it. i feel like this adorable little girl would be instant bffs with eleanor. maybe they will meet one day. TGIF!
