34weeks 34weeks2

the countdown is on! working on the name list! the baby stuff has been pulled out from the backs of our closets and we’re touring the hospital this week where baby will be born!

so… this is happening!

insomnia has set in full force… i find myself taking long baths and watching a lot of the voice on hulu at 3 or 4 in the morning (ps-can we talk about jean kelley? i just adore her.) anyway, it’s totally terrible because i know i need that sleep, and i desperately want it, but just like those last few weeks carrying eleanor and samson, my body refuses to allow me to have it.   the day i find myself not pregnant or nursing, i’m getting myself a hotel room and sleeping for 24 hours straight.
samson was closing a drawer to his dresser a few days ago and accidentally smashed his finger. it wasn’t a bad smash, but he did cry and cry. as i held and hugged him and asked him if it was OK, he exclaimed between his sobs, “i want. to tell. baby….” i was a little confused but i said “you want to tell baby? ok… you can tell baby…” to which he pulled up my shirt to expose my baby belly and leaned in super close towards my belly button. “BABY!” he said so very seriously while holding up his smashed finger trying to calm down a bit from crying so he could speak, “i hurt my finger, baby!”
it was such a beautiful moment where i realized how much this baby is already included in all of our family activities and prayers and conversations.  it made me incredibly proud to be a mother of such a sweet little boy who will make one outstanding big brother along side his big sister soon.
this new little baby is already so loved. and it’s one of the best things about having more children, watching them come into this world with a built-in fan club of older siblings that will hopefully lend themselves to be the best examples and teachers for the newest addition. and while i know from experience there will be fights and drama and stupid stuff like hair pulling and clothes stealing and hurtful words said in a heated moment through the years that will get between them at times (i’m one of five, i get it) i hope they’ll always have each other’s backs through life. it’s sort of one of my biggest mama dreams for them.

  18. Kate

  25. Danielle

I’m obsessed with Jean Kelley! She is so talented and cool, love her style.

Oh, so much empathy for you… 34 weeks is when things get uncomfortable; you start counting the days until week 40. I had my 3rd last November and had insomnia too – my OB/GYN and nurse practitioner told me to take Tylenol PM. They said it was safe and not a “drug” per se. It really helped me catch some zzz’s that last month. Good luck!

  26. Teresa

you’re adorable! I love how happy you look and how cute samson is with his little brother/sister!!!

  27. shayla

Dude, I totally understand the desire to sleep for 24 hours straight! I have this thing where I tell my husband it’s my “hibernation day” and I will literally sleep for 14 hours one day out of the month. You should try it ;) I have two boys under 2, and I feel ya on the necessity of sleep! (I think sleep is my love language, ha!)

  46. Veronica

    hi naomi!
    I have a question for you :)
How do you do at home with your children and household tasks? Does anyone help you?
    Thanks!

    • TAZA

i don’t have help with household tasks at home, but our place is small so as long as i try to keep it tidy each day and we do a big quick clean once a week, it stays ok. josh and i split the household chores among us equally and that definitely helps us stay on top of task. i secretly love deep scrubbing my bathroom or kitchen late at night sometimes before bed. i’m weird like that. :)

  47. dianna

oh that is SO SO SO adorable! Ugh, I remember not being able to sleep towards the end, like my whole third trimester. And I actually haven’t slept though the night since then! My 10 month old still gets up once in the middle of the night. There have been a handful of times that she hasn’t woken, but I still have…in a panic!

  48. Bailey

That story of Samson is so funny. I had to share it with a few co-workers.

(Also, Taylor Phelan for the win!)

  49. Kate

I can’t believe Samson did that! How ADORABLE. That baby is already so so so loved. Can’t wait to meet he/she soon:) ps…you look fabulous!

  51. Anne

You look great Naomi! That story about Samson is so sweet! I love how excited they are for baby already. Wow before we know it Christmas will be here (YAY!) and so will your sweet new baby!

  52. Charlotte

I lost my mother last year. It was always a dream of hers that my 2 sisters and I would be close once she is not “here” anymore. We are so close. And it will always be like that, for the rest of our lives.
It is was her biggest mama dream too, and it came true.

  53. Margaret

Naomi, after a loooong day at work as a seventh grade teacher, it is so nice to curl up with a hot cup of tea and read your blog. I teared up reading about Samson talking to the baby about his finger. The innocence children bring to our lives is indescribable. Also, I have a question! If you were ever to reply to our comments, would we get an email notification or something? I feel silly asking, but I’m actually not even sure.

    • TAZA

thanks so much, margaret! i’m not 100% certain, but i think you can click a box when you comment to be notified regarding responding comments? i should look into it, i’m not certain. but thanks again for your kind words!

  54. Macy

I’m one of those of the younger generation who denies the fact of later having children. I was raised super feminist and career minded. My goals, then maybe a man, then maybe-just maybe a family. But then also i think of what a perfect relationship I have with my bother all because our mother tried her hardest to make us realize that when our parents are gone its just me and him. I beg you from the bottom of a very grateful sister’s heart. Keep your babies close. My mother is also grateful that on most days my brother can handle my teenage hormone drama. Thank you for having such a beautiful family and such beautiful family values.

  55. piper

I had to click to see the items you were wearing but I can’t believe it – one outfit for like $700! that’s a lot! EEK!

  56. Love me some Luca & Bosco & not just because they are my clients (I actually got to design that lovely ice cream cart!) Hands down best ice cream in the city!!!
