new orleans! (part II)

we arrived home  late last night from new orleans and i wanted to share the last of our photos from our time spent down south! once again, there are a quite a few! see the first post on new orleans HERE.

^^^for dinner one night, we ordered an entire red snapper fish to share at peche! the entire dinner experience reminded me of my grandpa who could catch and fillet a fish without a single bone in sight when i was little! i remember sitting beside him once watching in awe. josh and i weren’t as successful as my grandpa with our fish, but it was still a fun and delicious experience!^^^

^^^speaking of food, this little guy downed an entire bowl of gumbo everywhere we went! even the spicy stuff i couldn’t handle. my mama jaw dropped every single time. i don’t know where we got him from!^^^

^^^and this little girl, such a great travel companion. she takes everything in with such thought and asks so many questions as we see and do new things together. it makes traveling all the more special when you have these little ones to share it with. i really believe that. ^^^

(click the CLICK TO SEE MORE for the rest of the pictures. sorry once again, it’s just not my specialty to edit our pictures down to a few…)

^^^we spent our last morning together at the aquarium! i can’t remember the last time i’ve been inside one, so i felt like one of the kids the entire time. we saw an alligator, sharks, giant sea turtles, penguins being fed breakfast and other fish, too! eleanor has learned to say aquarium and has worked it into almost every conversation we’ve had since we left. :) ^^^

^^^eleanor wasn’t quite game, but samson was all about meeting and petting the sting ray! he squealed and laughed so loud as he felt them.^^^

^^^that guy in the blue shirt right there? that’s nicholas cage. haha. i was taking a picture of this building and didn’t look closely at the people standing underneath it. then we turned left and walked right by them on the sidewalk and it was like, ‘oh! there’s nick cage in full on camera make up.’  they were apparently filming a walking scene from a new movie called the runner.  ^^^

^^^the french market was fun to walk through after breakfast one morning! ^^^

^^^samson and all the street performers! every time he heard a sax or guitar, even faintly from a few blocks away, he’d put his hand to his ear and say, “hear that?!” haha.^^^

^^^we enjoyed brunch at the ruby slipper on our last morning.  we had the nicest waiter too, because it was one of those breakfasts where josh and i felt like we were dining with two little monkey’s, one of which spilt a glass of milk all over the table and on our waiter, and he was nothing but gracious and kind about it. ^^^

^^^we stayed at the windsor court hotel and loved it. the kids couldn’t get enough of the swimming pool and i couldn’t get enough of the little pralines they’d leave on our pillows when they turned down our sheets each night. ^^^

^^^we tried district donuts before we took off to the airport. someday i wanna be brave enough to try the red beans and rice flavored donut.  i was not brave enough this trip. ^^^

^^^our friend finn was in new orleans this week as well filming a tv show, so we were able to spend time with him which always makes eleanor elated. she’s his biggest fan. ^^^

^^^we shared a plate of beignets at cafe du monde on our first night in new orleans. felt like a hot date too, since the kiddos had just fallen asleep in the stroller beside us for the evening. ;) ^^^

^^^this wreath reminded me of our old neighborhood in dc, capitol hill.  i sure do miss that place and all those pretty door wreaths.^^^

^^^walking and window shopping on magazine street.^^^

^^^we had lunch at la petite grocery and if you go, you must get the blue crab beignets appetizer!^^^

^^^photo taken by samson! (he’s not quite strong enough to lift the camera off the table, so when he’s behind the lens everyone has to bend down and get into the frame accordingly . haha!) ^^^

^^^my travel buddies! wouldn’t have it any other way!!!^^^

thank you again to the city of new orleans for inviting and hosting us on this fun little trip! this post is in partnership with the city of new orleans (NOTMC). we had the best time experiencing your beautiful city. and thank you again to everyone who gave such helpful recommendations and tips on what to do while we were there!

Can we talk about Eleanor’s sweet knee pop in 7th photo?! That gave me a kick.

  3. It definitely looks like you had the best time! We visited New Orleans some years ago, but somehow we didn’t like it as much as some of the other cities we visited during our road trip across America.

  4. Bea

The photo of you and E is great! You two look wonderful!
    You’re lucky!

  5. Cat

Can I just say again, your family is so beyond adorable. While I’m sure there’s the occasional temper tantrum off camera, you guys seem to have so much fun together. It’s awesome.

  24. bridget

that picture of you and eleanor is awwwwwesome.

  25. Yes yes yes! I’ve loved reading about your trip here. New Orleans has alwwwwways been on my bucket list. I’ve wanted to read a ‘real’ recount of what it’s like to spend a few days there eating great stuff and wandering about (which is exactly what I’d like to spend my time doing when I eventually get over to the states!) and I think you definitely did it justice. All that food looks soooooo so good. So funny that Samson eats spicy gumbo! It’s amazing how different siblings can be… and the sting ray too! Madness.

Glad to see you have had such a great time exploring. Thanks so much for sharing! I loved reading! :)

    • TAZA

      thank you! from jcrew.

  34. I’d be sad if you edited your photos down – I LOVE them xxx

  35. Bianca

Such awesome photos. Though there’s something rude and disrespectful about wearing a hat while seated in a restaurant. I was always taught the polite thing was to remove your hat indoors. Btw your bump is gorgeous xx

  36. tilly

it is always so good looking and reading through your posts! oh how those kids of your are ever so sweet! i love, love, love everything about this growing blog of yours, naomi……it truly is a great read and doesn’t ever fail to bring a smile to my face, especially when the photos are of e, s and baby bump #3! you do have one beautiful family and you should feel so blessed :)) glad you had a great time in new orleans! xx

  37. Mariska

I loved to see so many photos, and read about what seems to be my kind of trip! (Without the kids and baby-belly, maybe one day!)
Seems a bit silly, but I want to visit NO ever since I have seen ‘the Princess and the Frog’. The music got me all excited! And these pictures too! To go to NO or any road trip near our city of residence in the South of France.
    Keep it up!

    Mariska from

P.S. You look wonderful carrying baby three!

  38. Juliana

Now I a ant to go to New Orleans! I saw your first one and I must say I adored both of them. It’s always so much fun watching family photos filled with so much love, joy, laughter, and lots of good food! Cheers.

  46. such lovely, lovely photos. I haven’t been in NOLA since I was a little kid.. that may have to change soon!

    Happy Sunday!

  47. AGATA

I don’t know how this may sounds… but uou inspired me to start blogging. I’m following your blog for 3 years, I can’t say that I know you, but I can say that you are a wonderful person and you have a great family!
I love the way you write and that’s really nice to read it.

I know you’re busy, but if you have the time or you want to look…

  48. Kelly

This looks like such a fun trip, it makes me want to visit NOLA even more and that picture of you and E is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen!

  49. Eleanor is looking so big and grown up!! Especially in that pic with just you and her in the blue tennis shoes:) I love that you travel so much w your kids and teach them to explore. Traveling is one of our favorite things to do as a family and my husband and i always say we wish we didn’t have to work and could just travel travel travel!!

  50. zaby

    Your family trips are amazing.

  51. lucinda

what an incredible opportunity for the city of new orleans to invite your family to visit. all these wonderful experiences you are sharing with your children are going to make for their best memories. not to mention all the things they are learning and seeing from a young age! it’s very special.

  52. Brittni

What a great set of photos, they really capture the essence of your trip. I’m happy so many of these moments reminded you of prior memories; a true collision of past and present!

  53. DC misses you too!

  54. Keeley

I know everyone is sourcing your cute clothes, but I must know where Eleanor’s navy and white polka dots floral pantaloon-ey outfit is from??? So precious!

    • TAZA

aw thanks! that is actually a little jumper that was mine when i was little! i stole it from my mama when we were back home in march because it just cannot sit in my mom’s basement any longer! it needed to be worn again!

  55. Jillian

you look great, and your kids…so adorable.

  56. Anne

so fun! I agree family are the best travel buddies, even if the little get a bit crazy sometimes ;)

  57. Monica

Oh New Orleans, what a lovely time it looks like you and your adorable family had. Eleanor and Samson look like just the best of friends. ;)
I have a question a little off topic, with school starting up in just 2 weeks here in sweet home Alabama, I’m having a hard time finding cute, long lasting clothes that aren’t from Target or well, the mall. Where do you find clothes for Eleanor and Samson, as they always look so stinkin cute? ;)
Hope y’all had an awesome weekend.

    • TAZA

toddler clothing is definitely hard (especially because it can sometimes get stained and dirty so quickly!) Gap seems to have great basics at a good price. i also really love Zara and Polarn O Pyret. there are a few boutiques or smaller shops here in the city too that i often hit up just because the clothing is a bit more unique. but it’s hard for sure! hope that helped!

  58. Paige

I’m jealous of how adventurous you and your husband are with taking your kids so many places! These pictures look so fun!

  59. Ellie

Cafe du Monde is so lovely and delicious. We travelled from London to go to Mardi Gras this year, and on the third day (feeling pretty tired but happy) we caved and sat in CdM for a long time drinking the cafe au laits and those sugary beignets! I loved NOLA.

If I’d have known you were going I’d have said check out Juan’s Flying Burrito on Magazine St. Ok so I’m English, but that was definitely the best (and cheapest) tex mex I’ve ever had! Also Vaughan’s Lounge on Dauphine Street… incredible live jazz that just blew my mind. A bit late for the recs but hopefully helpful if you ever go back!

  60. It looks like such a fun place. So much colour and delicious food. You must have all had such an amazing time! x

  61. lauren

nick cage!! did you see that snl clip of andy samberg impersonating him and nick cage was with him, and it was a sketch where there were two nick cages? he made total fun of himself and it made me like him. that city looks beautiful! i want to go there!
