life. keeps on goin’ and goin’ and goin’!

hello! i have been trying to sit down and write a post for several days now, but it’s been such a whirlwind of a week for us. there is  a lot going on in our lives right now (some good things, some not so good things, but for the most part, GOOD things!) and everything has been a little bit all over the place.  but life is good!  and i’m just really thankful for the chance to have a shot at it.

here are a few iPhone photos of what we’ve been up to the last few weeks….

^^^we went on a little ping pong group date with friends to spin. here’s a photo of the men organizing the brackets for the men’s and women’s tournaments. they took this thing very seriously if you can’t tell. ;) ^^^

^^^and all the ladies!^^^

^^^samson wasn’t feeling too well last week. he’s been teething pretty hard (5 new teeth cut through!) and that came with a terrible fever one night, but nothing several popsicles and ice cubes and cuddling and made-up-songs-by-eleanor-on-her-guitar couldn’t fix… or help with, at least. glad to report he is so much better this week! and there is eleanor up on the counter helping make a green smoothie, too!^^^

^^^salads in the making at sweetgreen. although i’m still a wrap girl and order one every time, through and through.^^^

^^^trying to survive yet another long day that was too cold to play outside by killing time and energy in our church gym. also, working terribly hard to be more aware of what i’m putting into my body this year and as a result, tried to drink some chia seeds straight up one day. um, no. couldn’t do it. josh drank it though. (weirdo!) props to anyone who drinks only chia seeds regularly.^^^

^^^prettiest view coming out of the library. it might be the coldest month i can remember, but still thankful i get to live here, and see things like this each day.^^^

^^^i spy with my little eye, papa taking his babes up to his office. this was a really special day for our family. and here we go!^^^

^^^finally had the chance to meet kelsey nixon in person and see her in action giving a cooking demonstration! she is the sweetest, and her food was delicious!^^^

^^^had a few things to celebrate with my love so we tried out gotham bar and grill for restaurant week. absolutely delicious! i wish every week was restaurant week! ;) also, it’s ice cold outside but this little lady of mine was just dying to grab some froyo one day. she was being so good and asking so nicely, i just couldn’t deny her her special treat! silly girl. i love her so much.^^^

^^^still having at least one snow storm each week over here. and my kids are still eating them up like it’s christmas morning. i’ve been trying to have a more positive attitude about it, but honestly, is it april yet?^^^

^^^best buds. at least 3/4ths of the day.^^^

^^^finding sister’s dropped snow ball is the worst when you already have both of your arms full of other snowballs. he wanted it so bad! he just might have tried to pick it up several times, each time dropping one of the three to compensate. it was so hard not step in and help him (but i was trying to give him space to figure it out.) he finally decided it wasn’t worth it and carried on with his two. ^^^

^^^i have this issue where i get so obsessed sometimes with one dish and eat it at least once a week, maybe twice a week, until i’m sick of it. right now that dish is the massaman curry from land thai kitchen. oh my gosh. that stuff is gooooood.^^^

^^^shopping with my husband is always an adventure. a lot of our time in the dressing room goes something like this.^^^

^^^just off-roading with their scooters at the track field.^^^

have a great week, friends!

Hey Naomi – the chia seeds are much better to drink in a juice (rather than plain with water). I used to mix mine with limeade and seltzer for effervescent bubbles with chia seed bubbles :-) Also nice is cherry juice with limeade. I often cut my juice with seltzer or water, but a little flavor and sweetness makes the chia seed drink nice – I think of it as a healthy bubble tea.

  2. Such lovely pictures!! I love the snow but I feel like it’s outstayed it’s’ welcome, no?

  3. These photo’s were taken on your iphone?? Wow…..your iphone is good…sorry to hear about your son being under the weather….teething sucks!! ;( Have a lovely week. x

  4. nanette

lovely photos! love the kids in the snow. so sweet.

  5. Bambi

Glad that you found the time to write a post…I think life is at its best if it’s full and full of family, love, life, imperfection!

Greetings from Germany and thanks for sharing!

    …plus some thoughts on books:

  6. I admire how you always focus on the positive things in life, even though there may be some not to good things too. This post helped me to remember all the good things in life and stay positive. And today I definitely will! Thank you :)

  7. Freya

I do that too! I find something I like and eat it non stop until I can’t stand the sight of it. My fiance things I’m nuts, but there you go. My stomach wants what it wants!

  8. Sinead

Looks like a fun and busy week! The view coming out of the library is amazing :-)

  9. kirsty

Arr we are having lots of sleepless nights with our teething little 10 month old poppy too. It’s awful for them isn’t it? Love your posts and always look forward to reading them. Hopefully whatever the not so nice stuff thats going on in your life right now will get better soon. Xx oooh and I know on instagram a lot of people have commented asking you to do an apartment tour…..not that I’m nosey or anthing ;-) but I’m sure we’d all love to see it. Take care. Xx

  10. The ping pong date looks so nice! I love that the boys are so focused while the girls are just having fun, hahaha :) i can see how the snow may be very tiring, but as I rarely have snow here in Barcelona, I enjoy so so much seeing your kiddos playing with it. And hey, you look absolutely gorgeous in that picture with the green scarf.

  11. Your kids are growing up so quickly! I love that they are the best of buds… I’m besties with my big sister, and there’s nothing like it in the world :)

  12. Elise

The view out of the library is stunning. You have a wonderful family!

  13. Wow such a fun and busy week! I always miss NYC when I see your beautiful pictures! :)

  14. Haha, the story of the three snowballs! Too cute.

  15. Emma

It’s nice to read an update from you! I have found it hard to get motivated to do things in this weather as well (staying inside is so easy), but it looks like your family has stayed busy. Hang in there. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon!

  16. Brooke

Aw such fun family times! My nephew is teething hardcore as well…it’s rough but triumphant in the end haha!

  17. amber

Gorgeous photos! you have such a beautiful family! I love the photos of the kids in the snow! It’s been a great winter for playing in the snow, but i know what you mean. We are up in Maine and I just want it to be SPRING!

The food looks yummy and the shopping photos are funny! Always a joy reading your blog :)

  18. Paige

I’ve been wanting to try one of those juice cleanses, I don’t think I would be able to handle it either though!

  19. i love that Samson is trying to juggle 3 snowballs. he is too cute. and i don’t blame you about the chia seeds.. i don’t know about that! this year is definitely a year of being more conscious of what goes in my body, as well.. but sometimes i just ask my husband for a burger and fries! ;)
looks like you’re doing a great job keeping your young ones entertained through the snow.

(i can’t wait for full on spring though)
    happy tuesday!

  20. JM

Remember, it’s always darkest before the dawn. Glad to see you are staying positive though.

Obviously no one wishes you anything negative, but I have to say that posts like this are what make your blog so relatable and real. Everyone goes through tough times and it is nice to be able to rely on each other, you know? I hope that makes sense and that you always feel safe to share here what is going on in your life, it’s part of what makes people identify with you and your blog.

All the best to you and yours! :)

  21. lucinda

you’re really rocking that blond hair and those bangs in that photo with samason. hope the little guy is feeling better – teething is no fun!

  22. your photos are so, so lovely. stay warm! have a great week.

  23. Jemima

Hehehe. The snowball shot is so funny! I just want to help him pick it up!!! Fantastic. Looks like some good times have been had, hopefully they’ll help offset the bad. xx

  24. Melissa

My husband works in the same building as your husband! Well, we live in London but when we move back to NYC at the end of the year, he’ll be in that building. And he works out of there when we are in NYC visiting.

  25. TJ

I just love following your family through instagram. You make every day seem like such a great adventure! loving these photos! Happy Tuesday! :)
    xo TJ

  26. Shannon

Don’t feel bad, I don’t think I would be able to do straight chia seeds either!

  27. oh this was a super fun post! I cannot even imagine living in NYC right now, with two babies (including one teething!). You are a rock star to be able to still do fun stuff, and take time to share the joy. Hope things will calm down a little as you sound like it is kind of too much at times. It’s always inspiring, fun, and entertaining to read you. Thank you!!!!

  28. Bea

    So many wonderful photos!!!

  29. nikki

i’m with ya– april needs to hurry up! at least your littles are enjoying all of the snow!

ps. still can’t get over how amazing you look as a blonde! love it!!

  30. sheer loveliness all over the place

  31. Beth

Mmmmmmm, Land. I used to go there weekly, as well, when I lived on the UWS. And Hampton Chutney, too. I lived around the corner from both and couldn’t believe how often I ordered delivery when I could have just walked there, haha. But so helpful when I was sick and needed nourishment. I miss Land’s papaya salad. I haven’t been able to find a good Thai replacement in Brooklyn.

We’re hanging in there, too, with crappy toddler sleep and cold temps, but getting out and about somehow helps, I think. Soon enough, those daffodils will be popping up and how beautiful the park and your neighborhood is in the spring. Ours, too. Hang in there.

  32. Jessica

I’m glad little Samson is feeling better now!! Also, I love how your children are like, the best of buds! These photos are so cute. Hope you have a great day!

  33. Carolyn

I’m just wondering if you’re pregnant again??!! I get really strong gut feelings about things and I’m usually spot on…I’m definitely not trying to be rude (because you clearly don’t look anything but tiny and amazing)…but i have a hunch. :)

  34. hanna

I love your blond hair! –Hanna Lei

  35. Katie

Teething is rough! The infant I nanny is teething and he is so whiny and clingy all day long. I know they’re hurting, but, man, I wish they’d come in faster!

I drank some kombucha with chia seeds in it, and loved it! Everyone around me was totally disgusted, but I thought it was delicious.

  36. Carly

I loved this little look into your NYC life!

  37. Glad things are mostly good and that Samson is feeling better! And I also get obsessive like that about particular foods and eat them non-stop until I can’t bear the sight of them for a while :-)

  38. Kelly

It looks like lots of fun! I actually had my company Christmas party at SPIN and it was a blast. Plus those snowballs? Too cute!

    xx Kelly

the other day someone said it might snow off and on until may. i still haven’t figured out if they were joking or not. they better have been joking is all i have to say because seriously…!??! your current ‘do looks great! i like the color better than the super platinum too.

  43. What fun little adventures. And kudos to you for even going near that drink, anything with slimy chunks does not work for me!

Wishing the Davis fam an amazing week as well!

  44. Taylor

Love this! Life has been crazy hectic for me too, but it’s nice to stop and enjoy something (like some froyo!) every once in a while. Also, totally in love with those checkered pants!

  46. athewa

Hey!!… Here is a little tip for drinking chia seeds.
We love to prepare lemonade (just water + lemon + some sugar/honey/whatever you prefer) and add some seeds.
With just one table spoon (or twoo) I guess would be enough.

That will make a whole world of difference flavour wise!

  47. Laiah

Loved this post and the pictures. Your family is beautiful :)

  48. You have such a beautiful life, I am so glad you decide to share it with the world. It must be hard balancing a family, a husband AND a blog but somehow you manage to do it so effortlessly! I applaud you because it is so magical to see. Keep at it and please don’t stop! Sending you warm wishes from Spain xoxo

  49. Veronika

It’s so funny when I read your blog last year around that time seeing all the pictures how warm it was already and knowing i am moving to New York the same time i figured it might be the same in march 2014. oh jeez was i wrong. i still have to check the weather-app every day to figure out what to wear. it’s crazy!

  50. what a wonderful blog post and it seriously looks like y’all have the most fun with children in the big city! i can’t imagine since i come from the warm south with a big ole backyard, but your pics make me want to visit NYC again WITH my kiddos! good luck with the teething, i know you know it’s short lived (with E) but i feel for you (and him) bc it can be brutal in the meantime. congrats on the great things happening in your lives!! god bless and enjoy them.
