a little good bye gathering…

we met up with friends in the park on sunday evening for a little good bye gathering. the people we have come across here in dc are so awesome. and they are what we’ll miss most about living here. but we know a lot of these friendships will last a lifetime (dc friends, right? RIGHT?!) so it’s not as difficult to leave… but still. this is always the hard part.
  1. Goodbyes are always hard (I've done so many over the years), but good friends will always be there no matter where you live. Looks like a fun party in the park.

  2. I'm sure they're all so sad to have you leave :( Goodbyes are rough, but at least it's easier to keep in touch these days!

  3. so precious! my husband and i just moved to a new area, and are hoping to make those kinds of memories. prior to our move saying goodbye to our lifetime friends was THE hardest part.

good luck to you and your family!

    XO. eden

  4. Wishing you lots of luck in NYC! xx

  5. Lindsay

awww, friends make the world go round, moving and making new ones just means you will have more! You've added NYC as a visiting destination for all your DC buddies!

Looking forward to seeing you kick around the city! Xx

  6. In the days of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and cheap flights, keeping in touch isn't so hard! :) I know it's hard to say goodbye – but on the other hand, this isn't goodbye! :) Best of luck with the move!

  7. Kim

definitely loving all of this naomi!

goodbyes are so hard!! good luck with your move this week.

  9. The top photo of you and your friend hugging is beautiful… We are moving to Dubai in a few weeks, and although im uber excited about our new adventure, I am dreading the goodbyes, and those big best friend hugs/squeezes.

Best of luck with the move! Xx

    /Camilla

  10. Good luck in NYC! Goodbyes are always a toughie, but it's easy when the friends you make are the friends that are always there for you no matter the distance.

  11. E's bicycle dress!!!! Adorable! I might just have to do a certain DIY project in her honor… :)

  12. E's dress! To die for. Where in the world is that from?

  13. Lilith

    Good luck for the move!

It's always great to read you here in Paris (France)!

I'm lucky enough to have a great family life here (we're 29 and our baby girl is 10 months!), and often think about how much important it is to emphasize the beautiful moments in our lives…. just as you do, even if you must be totally overwhelmed with two babes+moving. I love the way you're always thankful and trying to be positive!!
Hope to see you one day in Paris?

    Best regards,
    Heloise

  14. Loulou

aww, it must be so hard to leave what looks to be a great bunch of friends. Looks like you had a nice gathering.

  15. It's great how many new friends you guys made in DC. Farewells are always hard.
The last picture makes me how fast Elenoar is growing!
    Good luck with the move.

  16. I can't get over Eleanor's cute dress. And the woman holding Samson in the black shirt was in my ward (Vienna)! Too much fun.

  17. Ally

Too funny. I studied abroad with the guy John with longer hair holding a baby with the Asian woman. Small world.

  18. the last photo with the children melts my heart!

  19. Sarah

Um, HOW are you still able to blog while packing and watching over 2 kidlets???? Wonder woman!

it's always so hard saying goodbye! i even feel that way everytime i go home to canada for a visit and then have to leave, so sad.

  21. leyla.

such a sweet way to say goodbye. dc and new york are not that far away form each other, so that makes saying goodbye a little easier, i would guess.

    leyla.

  22. Crystal

Every time I see a new photo of E I just can't believe how gorgeous she is. I love that little face of hers, it is just too cute. I am sure if you lived in NZ she would be best friends with my boy! ; ) Good luck with the move.

  23. Kari

Such a fun goodbye party! Beautiful photos.

  24. I agree with the word hard part. saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do.Love the action of true friendship base on the photos.

  25. E's dress is so cute- I know you just want to eat her up!! Friends are forever – and luckily there is Facebook to keep up with them:)

  26. So sorry you had to say goodbye. That is always the hardest part, you are right. I am going through the same thing with college at this moment!

Oh, and E's dress is adorable!

  27. Eekk Eleanor's bicycle dress is adorable! Where ever did you find that gem?

  28. Lea

As a native Washingtonian who now resides elsewhere, I have so enjoyed living vicariously through you and your family. There is no such thing as excessive gelato, 2 Amys, Eastern Market, etc. Thank you for sharing your DC wanderings. As for New York, good luck lady! I cannot imagine being on a laptop with two kiddos and all of your belongings to pack. Cliche as it is, you're a rockstar!

  29. Alison

How great that you got to have a goodbye party. Eleanor looks adorable in her bike dress. Sad that I missed your sale, but good for you for donating to causes that you believe in.

  30. Oh my I absolutely love E's dress! Where is it from??

  31. AWW this is so bitter sweet. I HATE goodbyes!

  33. you guys know how to have a good time in the park! goodbyes are always so hard. At least you aren't moving too far away! ;)

but i am sure it will all work out for you and you will have lots of dc visitors and lots of excuses to visit dc :)

  42. So sweet! Saying goodbye is hard, but as many times as I've moved… The people who love you will stay in contact. Even if you don't seem them for a year, everything feels like you never left! xoxo

Um, baby Henry gumming up that watermelon is adorbs!!!

  46. Take it from someone who has spent most of their life jumping from one place to the next – true friends are definitely there to stay. You'll find a way to make things work, despite the distance, there is no doubt about it !

On a completely unrelated note – you look so happy and well on the first picture, as always ! I was wondering what make your glasses were ? I need to change mine soon, and those are right stunners…

  47. Ana

enjoy your last days! its always sad to say goodbye

  48. Rhonda

goodbyes are always hard. and i lost a lot of friends when i moved.

  49. So sweet! Love the shot of that cute little baby eating the watermelon.

I'm with you, though. Shouldn't friends be required to live within a five-mile radius?! That would certainly make life easier.

Im a (student) film photographer and came across your blog via Paperbagblog….I am absolutely in LOVE with your images – so inspiring! I shall be adding your wonderful page to my blogroll =]

  60. One of the main reasons I don't want to move ( for better climate and a job) is because I want my kids to be around family. I'm also afraid of leaving my friends because life is so busy it's hard to make new friends. Good luck! It has to be so hard to leave your home.

  61. adbwgooc

How exciting for you to be returning to New York! What a life!!! I didn't get a chance to bid on any of your items but you wouldn't be willing to sell your Lauren Moffat Eastward coat would you! LOL I am stalking that on Ebay and can't find one in a small!!!

  62. Good luck in NYC!!

    kristyn

ps. i love eleanor's little bicycle dress!

  67. I think everybody knows that you and Josh adore Kingsley. He's very lucky that you will still be a part of his life, and that you put his happiness above your own. He's going to love living by the beach. At least you'll still get to see him and know that he's happy and being well taken care of. <3

leaving friends is always hard, i moved alot and i always hate to leave some really really good friends behind me. a few of them are still my friends, but not many. so i hope that the relationship to your DC-friends is strong enough to stay in contact with them. I'll miss your DC photos, it seems such a beutiful city and it kind of stands on number one on my travelinglist…

By that way, seeing al the people holding "newborn" handsome little samson makes me want to hold a baby, a really tiny little baby, with no body tension and a head to hold. a sleeping newborn on me. that's what i wnat right now!

  70. i saw your post about your lovely dog, i just wanted to say i had to do that a few years back and like you it broke my heart, lots of tears were shed and i felt terrible but it turned out to be the best thing for my dog. you can tell you love your kingsley an awful lot! peace to your heart as you transition. – alyce.

  71. samurph

I love love love your hair in the first photo, the braided swoop and would love to know how you manage to accomplish at ? Looks so polished and classy. DIY video please

  72. Dana

Goodbyes are always so hard but that's why I like to stay focused on the excitement of moving somewhere new!

  73. TOTALLY SELFISH, to just leave your poor dog, like he's a replaceable piece of furniture. He is attached to you and you abandoned him. I could personally never do that. I guess everybody has their priorities. makes me want to cry, when i think about that cute pup wondering why his family left him. :'(

Good luck with your move! It's always hard to leave a grey place and great people. :) :)

  77. Jemma walsh. So rude.

  78. JBC

    Jemma Walsh… so rude.

You guys love Kingsley the most and know what is best for him. He'll always be a part of your family.

  79. Julia

Jemma Walsh – no need to be nasty, at all. From her post on the subject, i thought it pretty darn clear that Naomi and Josh will have thought long and hard about what is best for Kingsley, and that this wouldn't have been a flippant or easy decision for them. Do you honestly think she and Josh shared a big high five over this??! He hasn't just been dropped down at the pound, he is crashing with their immediate family.

Chins up, guys, Mr King will be loving his time with your family, and you will see him again soon!!

  80. Lena

I just wanted to say that I absolutly adore your blog. Your family is great, and, yeah i'm just 16 but my family has to be cool like your when I grew up :)
    Nice greetings from Germany,
    Lena :)
