guest post // 10 adventures for siblings. by elsie & emma

Dear Eleanor,
You might not know this yet… but you are about to have so many adventures! We wanted to share a few things that we love to do with our brother. You’re going to be a great big sister….

1. You can make pancakes together! It’s the best thing to do on a Saturday morning… we promise!

2. You can ride bikes together. It’s more fun when you have a sibling to ride with!

3. You can travel together. No matter where your mom and dad take you, you’ll always have a best friend to play with!

4. You can bake cookies together. When we were little we baked a lot of cookies with our mom. It was one of our favorite things to do each winter!

5. You can build forts with blankets. You’ll need some flashlights and storybooks too…

6. Play with puppies as much as you can. They make life better.

7. You can have picnics at the park. You’ll have so much fun!

8. When you get a little bit older you can watch your sibling fall in love. This is one of the best things you’ll ever get to watch… it’s magical!

9. That means you can throw them a wedding shower. We’re pretty sure you’ll be great at it! ;)

10. And then you can watch them get married. You will probably cry when your little brother gets married… we did.
Wishing you the most amazing adventures with your new little brother! XO, Elsie + Emma from A Beautiful Mess

These are all so true, coming from a girl with a little brother. He is my best friend, even as we round our 30's … He just got married this past year … I cannot tell you how emotional I was (probably did not help that I was pregnant)and it was the best feeling in the world to see him so happy. Eleanor – enjoy Samson. You will hate him some days, but love him most.

  23. Ed Rod

This was a beautiful post, but so true! E will be wonderful

  24. *sniff* This made me cry. So sweet. My sis and I have a little brother whose wedding we cried at. And now my girls have a little brother they spoil and tease–depending on the moment. Wishing you a life of fun with your little brother, Eleanor!

  25. Aw man this is so brilliant! I especially like number 8. Watching my little brother fall so in love with his girlfriend has been one of the greatest things I've ever seen :)

Take their advice, Eleanor (maybe when you're a little older though)! :P Even though sometimes siblings occasionally show their affection in strange ways, he'll definitely become one of your greatest friends!!

  26. lo

This made me, like many, tear up as well. I'm 19 watching my 16 y/o little brother interact with his first girlfriend and thinking of all the fun things we have done as siblings…. From making cookies for Santa to discovering secret caves while on vacation. There was a time when I had to do the heimliech maneuver when we were home alone for the first time ever. Im sure Eleanor will be protective of Samson for some time, but one day Samson will be taller than her and she'll notice him being more protective of his dear sister. Siblinghood is so fun and beautiful, but I'm sure you know a bit about that Naomi ;)

  27. This is so cute! My sister and I are best friends, she usually pushes the fort in while I'm under their though! Jacob x

  28. The absolute sweetest! E is going to be the best big sister! Little Samson is so lucky <3

  29. Awwww … what a simple yet lovely post! Just too cute!

  31. #8 just melted my heart. It's entirely true. I have two older sisters and a younger sister. Watching my little sister fall in love was truly magical. I introduced her to the boy she's now loved for 4 years, and I can't wait to see the life that they build together.

Eleanor is going to be an excellent big sister. She'll be brimming with pride and love for little Samson.

    xo the egg out west.

  50. Kate

I always tell my oldest that the best gift I ever gave him was his little brother… he just doesn't know it yet. My boys are 3.5 and 18 months and each day I see them grow closer and closer. I see the adventures and miracles start happening between them. And then just last week my husband captured a moment with the camera where they looked soo deeply and truly into each others eyes and smiled the sweetest smile I've ever seen. It was at that precise moment I knew my oldest was starting to understand.

Wishing all of you sweet memories.

    Kate

  54. So very true…

My sister is the love of my life…She really is. I don't love anyone as much as I love my sister…I don't think she loves me as much as I love her(and that is not a sad thing..it's just the way it aways was..and I'm fine with that..I KNOW she Loves me..but I also KNOW that I love her more =P But love is love…)

I don't know If I would be the person I am today if it wasn't her by my side since I can remember(Mom got pregnant when I was 3 months old..So…I'm one year and 14 days older than my sister ).
She is one of the reason that of my pseudo sanity…LOL !

It's so good to look back at your life and see that there were this one person that shared with you all the good and bad in life…that was there with you during the most boring, exciting, happy and sad situations…

Share life…that is what we did…and that is what we do. Nothing more difficult and more amazing than that.

  55. Pugs! Yay! Siblings – double yay!

  56. So sweet! She is going to be the greatest big sister ever!

  57. This post made me tear! I love it! I have 2 older sisters and 2 younger brothers. Yes, we had our moments, but ultimately, I am blessed! My sisters are my best friends! We always go on adventures, together. Eleanor, you're in a for a real treat!!!! :)

  58. Lotte

    very beautiful post…!!

  59. chloé

    you make me have goosebumps.

  60. Audrey

This was so great because it speaks the truth. Siblings are the best people to experience any new adventures with!

  61. This has to be the simplest and sweetest 'ode to siblings' I've ever read. Our baby is ready to arrive any minute. If we have another, I am printing off this post to read to her!

  62. Such a sweet and creative idea!

  63. These are such wonderful moments that siblings can do- my favorites being traveling together and making cookies. My boys are the best of buds and now that they have a little sister, it's 3 times the fun!
I'm an only child, but have 3 little ones, and wouldn't trade my bigger family for anything. Eleanor- you're gonna dig having a little bro.

  64. Oh My Goodness! This post is so sentimental. So so sweet. I love when my two favorite blogs come together! Perfection!

  65. Ami
