a chalk board wall for miss eleanor.

a couple of weeks ago, josh and i painted a chalk board wall for eleanor in her nursery. i have long loved chalk board walls in homes (i painted one for myself in my first new york city apartment, and josh and i have had one in every space we’ve lived in together, too– see here, here, and here). i can’t wait for many afternoons of coloring with eleanor on her little wall over the next couple of years.
ps. linking all those old posts just made me so nostalgic! i can’t believe what has taken place since i drew that countdown to my wedding on my old new york city apartment wall! if you would have told that version of myself from five years ago that i’d be coloring on a chalk board wall with my daughter here today in washington dc, she wouldn’t have believed you… in fact it’s still hard for me to believe.

yep. i think she likes it.
*we used non toxic chalk board paint from our local paint store and don’t worry, i’ve been diligently wiping up that chalk dust at the end of each day.
  1. You just made me want a chalkboard wall! I had to go back and take a look at all your walls! Genius! I can't wait to own our own place! This wall is now on my priority list!

  2. Oh. PS. I loved you interview on rock and roll bride!!!

As soon as I got home I told my husband about this. We are always leaving notes and drawings on the fridge so we decided we will paint the side we always use. Can’t wait! Saw a couple fridges online and they looked great. Thank you for this wonderful idea. BTW your family is very lovely. Thanks again.

I tried having Evelyn use sidewalk chalk the other day and I think it lasted 10 seconds before she tired of it and threw the chalk on the ground, breaking into pieces :)

  8. Candice

I would love to do this in my kitchen to write menus or grocery lists. Great idea!! Love it.

Lots of giveaways like an amazon gift card right now at my blog http://www.brunchwithmunch.blogspot.com

  9. Oh my goodness I love these photos. I've just fallen in love with Miss Eleanor. Before I got married, my whole kitchen was painted bright green and chalkboard on the opposite walls. Dinner parties used to end in hangman but I think I need to resurrect the chalkboard wall for our little miss Greta. She and E. would play nice together, I'm sure. Enjoy!

  10. i wish i would have done something for my kids like this when they we little…great idea…she looks like she's having a blast!

  11. So this is pretty much the BEST idea for a toddler. Love it!
