the other evening…

the other evening, we biked as a family over to the national mall to meet up with friends to try and fly kits before the sun set. after a very windy week, the evening provided absolutely zero wind and no kites went up (although you better believe josh tried. ;) we made our way over to the hirsshorn museum to watch doug aitken’s “song 1” on the grass instead. and, like we keep hearing from everybody, it is awesome. (there’s a short clip below if you wanna see…)

see? pretty awesome.
afterwards we parted ways with our friends and grabbed smoothies. then, without intending to, josh and i walked our bikes the entire way home so we could enjoy our smoothies slowly and also a nice long conversation together in the outdoors.
evenings like that make me excited for more warm nights and family time outdoors in the coming months. also, a bit of a side note, but eleanor has become like a little fish in the bathtub so don’t even get me started on how excited i am for pool days soon!

  12. hi! i have to repeat what everybody says – you guys are beautiful and so apparently filled with joy, life and love that it just makes one happy to watch and keeps motivating to make every next day as a family better than the past one.
this evening you describe here sounds very nice, and very like the ones i used to share with my husband when we were still two, before our daughter was born. how do you do it with eleanor – does she sleep everywhere, even if you are out? i'm asking because i am looking forward to those summer evenings as well, but am always too intimidated by eventually being shaking up my daughters' sleep times..

    all the best from switzerland!

DC is such a beautiful place. I moved here last July from Wisconsin and I'm still in awe every time I see the Washington Monument. We're pretty lucky to have history and beauty around us at all times.

That last photo is so heartwarming! If you ever need a babysitter, I'm your girl. :)
