twelve dates of christmas: on our first date of christmas…

…we had brunch together. just the two of us. at montmarte.
a special thanks to my twin sisters who were in town
and so sweetly talked us into going
while they took eleanor to eastern market.
(our first date just the two of us since her birth! )

*i stole this twelve dates of christmas idea from my dear friend marci (who i miss so terribly, please come visit, marci!) as i love how she and her husband celebrate christmas by making time for 12 little dates during the holiday season. i thought it especially fitting this year since our attention often goes to eleanor before each other these days. can’t wait for eleven more excuses to spend time with my love! (you can see all of marci & dan’s cute christmas dates over the years, here.)

I love you guys and I love spending a moment of my time looking into a little part of what seems your perfect life together. You two are very inspirational.

  4. jessi

I'm 7.5 months pregnant and oh so jealous of your eggs benedict. They look so yummy. I can't wait to be allowed to eat runny eggs and hollandaise again!

  5. Nicole

love this idea! we might just have to do it too!

  6. Jessi

Looks like such a lovely time! Day dates are so fun. And I'm glad to hear you finally got time alone. We've only had 3 dates in the past 10 months since our baby boy was born. It's hard to find the time (and someone you trust to watch them!)

  7. bethani

awww what a terrific idea. no kids yet, but its a great idea for those with children.

cant wait to see the 11 others.

  8. looks delicious! What a fun idea to go on 12 dates of Christmas! :)

  15. such a genius idea! but who is watching your perfect lil baby? i would love to do this but we don't have family or friends who can help much with our lil one. and i'm too neurotic to leave her with someone she barely knows.

WHY have I never tried the brunch at Montmarte? It looks delicious and it's only a block away!

  17. AW! You two are adorable and your food looks awesome. I think I'm going to steal this idea too…

  18. maria

    love this idea.xx

  19. That's such a great idea! My fiancé and I rarely ever go out these days since having my daughter. We've been out once and that was to see a movie on my birthday last month haha (which she was already sleep by the time we had left, so I'm not sure if that even counts).

  20. April

I love this idea! This year, my fiance and I can't afford presents for each other. So we are just doing stockings. Maybe this would be a good idea next year??

PS- OMG those poached eggs look delicious. Poached eggs are my FAVORITE!

  21. Such a sweet and amazing idea!

  22. You two. Are so adorable I can't stand it. I love the 12 dates of Christmas idea! Someday I'm going to get married and we are going to be cute together like you and Josh. hopefully!

  23. Whatever that is that looks like it's drizzled in goodness…. drool. I want that.
And I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when you said it's your first date in 10 months?! Amazing. You two are dedicated parents. I'm not much better. I can count on one hand how many solo dates the hubs and I have had in the past 6 months. But when we do go it's fireworks. We get to get to know just each other all over again. And don't have to fight baby grabby hands. Love :)

  24. I have to say you look SO different in this post – is it just the camera angle/glasses? I randomly clicked on Dec 2009 to make sure I wasn't imagining things… and yea, your facial features seem to have changed so much post-baby. Of course I don't know you in real life, so I may be way off the marker lol. Either way, this is the best idea for dates and you two are so adorable as usual!! :)

  25. Katie

cute idea! you always eat the best food!

  26. this is such a cute idea! i havent had much time with just my husband since our 11 month was born, i may need to start a 12 dates of christmas!

Wow, that looks really yummy! I remember the first time we went out without our baby boy… it was weird and liberating! How right you are about needing to make time for one another because that is where your family began in the first place.

  29. what an absolutely perfect IDEA and something I'm definitely going to try! Your date is too sweet. Nothing is better than eating lol Props to your sisters for making you guys go out ;]

best idea ever! holidays get so hectic, kid(s) or not, and really, it's important to just take time and slow it down. so special. i'm glad i heard of this BEFORE Christmas so i can partake, too. because obviously date nights are the best ever. =]

  52. Lottie

This is such a lovely idea and one I might be taking inspiration from.

With all the Christmas excitement and rush it is hard to get to spend some time together.

Looks like you had a wonderful time and the food looks amazing!

  53. Victoria

A great idea. I might have to do my 12 dates with the Huzz in the New Year as we are moving to the US in 12 days from Europe and there isn't time to have a coffee at home, let alone a date!!!

  54. Samantha

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hasn't been on a date with my husband since we had our baby. (he's 8 months old) I was that person who said (before I was pregnant) that we needed to keep up a date night and we have failed miserably.

  55. Mary Ann

Hi Naomi, LOVE your blue coat. Could you please share were you purchased this fabulous winter garment? Thanks.

  56. What a lovely idea. Can't wait to see the rest of them. X

  57. Your pictures always have a nice film-like, sun washed or faded look that I love. Do you use a filter or something in post to achieve that? Or is that right out of the digital camera?

  58. Oo I went to that restaurant w/ my friend when I was visiting DC. I got the eggs benedict too — so delicious! You two are TOO cute!!
