halloweeeeeen costume time!

halloween is coming up (hooray! it’s about time, right? i’ve already started listening to christmas music so…) and i can’t wait. probably because this year i not only have a bulldog to dress up (his birthday is on halloween after all), but i have a baby to dress up too. needless to say, it’s a happy time in my life.
last year kingsley was a little devil. considering he’s already chewed off the pumpkin stems on our front porch pumpkins, i’d say we could roll with that theme again. but this year i sorta wanna do a family themed costume idea i have in mind, so i think we’ll be skipping the devil horns.
are you dressing up this year?

How fun! I totally understand the happy time in your life because we are in the same boat. My baby can actually walk this year and even has a few molars for chewing candy! I'm crazy enough to sew him a costume this year. I am stoked! Can't wait to see what you are doing.

  7. Man, my husband doesn't want any Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, so I have to wait till he's not home. :-) My youngest will be a Star Trek Engineer, my oldest is a Jack-in-the-box & I will be a cupcake. Definitely don't match, maybe once baby can walk we'll give it a try.

  8. that picture is beyond adorable.

  9. ahh, can't wait to see the amazing family outfit that you will come up with. i'm sure it will be adorable and so creative!! take lots of pictures!

Oh, man! I love that picture. So freaking cute. I'm not dressing up this year. I haven't dressed up for Halloween since I was a kid. I am, however, dressing my son up as a monkey. :D

  18. Halloween is so fun! I'm going as an oven with a bun in it (I'm 7 months pregnant), my husband is going to be a chef, and my 19 month old daughter is going to be a loaf of Wonderbread as long as I can figure out how to finish making her costume!

  19. Oh I can't wait to see what your family ends up dressing like! I just got back from a pre-halloween party and went as a clown, but for the real halloween I am thinking of little red riding hood. Oh, and the puppy is being a butler (top hat and all!). Happy planning!

  20. sooo cute! my fiance and i still trying to brainstorm on our costumes – so late, i know!

  21. Sarah

Yes we are!!! My family is going as…. Me as the Leg Lamp, Hubs as the "Fragile" box, and our sweet 1 year old daughter as the pink bunny costume from the movie A Christmas Story lol I can't wait!!!

  23. I don't celebrate Halloween, but I think my cat might have to! She'd look good as a pumpkin!

  24. Katz NYC

Few friends and I are going as a motorcycle gang this year. Never did a group costume thing so it will be fun.

  25. Eleni

I cannot WAIT to see your fmaily costumes! Your Mary Poppins and Burt costumes will go down in the annals of Halloween History so I know you won't disappoint!

  26. Olivas

    Sooooo cute!!!!

  27. oh my goodness that photo! Every party I've been invited to this year has been Day of the Dead themed (which is not even on Halloween…!!) but I really wanted to go as some kind of couple costume with my boyfriend. I bought him these rainbow suspenders at a thrift store and we realised that Mork from Mork and Mindy wears those so I could always go as Mindy…but she's not very scary and her outfits were pretty boring. Can't wait to see what you guys dress up as!!

  28. can't wait to see what your family theme will be. we can't get the littles to agree on a theme. darn them having their own thoughts & ideas. haha.

  29. LBR

haha love the picture! I have a 3 month old and was thinking a family costume was in order. I think I'll dress Veda Jane up as a little girl cow and have my husband and I be farmers! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  40. Alyssa

Such a cute photo! It's hard to believe such an adorable dog can be a devil. I remember when he chewed up your antique sofa though. I'm sure he doesn't mean to be a pain… maybe he should be a little devil again for Halloween!

    SHOP VINTAGE!

  41. Rachel

I just LOVE that picture…it makes me want to get a dog of my own to dress up! We're not big into Halloween, but we're totally into the pumpkin carving. Last year we carved our pumpkins into Apple symbols (as in the tech company), and this year my hubby's attempting the profile of Steve Jobs!

  42. haha what a cute picture!
Halloween isn't a big deal in Spain unfortunately. Otherwise I would totally dress up!

  43. Dressing up dogs for Halloween is so much fun! Can't wait to see the family theme!

  44. I'm excited to see what Eleanor's costume is. I'll be dressing up as a flamingo…I'm hoping I can convey that with enough pink and feathers. I agree that Halloween is the kickoff to the perfect holiday line-up! And I love autumn in the District.

  45. ezrazoe

that photo is so so so cute! I once dressed my black french bulldog as a bat with bat wings… he was a hit! Son will be a frog, and my daughter will be a lobster this year. hmmm maybe I should get into the 'marine life' spirit and be a mermaid.

PLEASE post pix of El and King!

  46. I must admit that I too have already busted out a Christmas cd. I just can't stand the excitement! :)

  47. That dog is too cute!

  50. So so so cuute! Chloe (dog) is dressing up as Minnie Mouse this year! I'm super excited for Halloween! Just bought bags of Snickers and Twix, a Halloween bucket, and pumpkin carving kit. And our front porch has been prepped for Halloween all month. Overboard a little? Maybe – but it'll be the first year we'll have had trick-or-treaters so I'm excited!

  55. Briel79

I've been wanting to listen to Christmas music already too! I am refraining since I usually wait until after Thanksgiving but I don't know if I can wait that long this year. I don't know what it is but ever since October hit I've been in full holiday mode in my mind. It's too early! haha

  56. Becs

What a cute costume! If you're still looking for ideas, how about Wizard of Oz?

  57. the pup doesn't look too excited about his costume! haha.

i'll be almost 8 months pregnant this halloween, so my fiance and i are dressing up as juno and pauly bleaker. :) he's wearing the short track shorts and everything.

  58. I simply need to find something this cute for our pups, although they would be fit for the devil costume as well, trouble makers.

  60. I always try to dress up my dog, Sophie, but she just wiggles right out! She tends to be a little camera shy, too :(

  61. Betsy

This is the cutest thing. Real Simple had a list of 12 different pet costumes. I particularly loved the dragon hoodie for a pup. Or the taco. Adorable.
I have a party to go to next weekend and I have no idea what I'm going to be.

  62. JennySue

girl yes, we are already listening to christmas music as well- the glee christmas album! i have 3 kiddos who are obsessed with christmas music AND halloween- so both holidays are in full swing. my 3 are the star wars trilogy- boba fett, princess leia, and darth vader. love your site- so flippin cute.

OOOO!! Loving the bulldog photo! Aren't they the sweetest? I wanted to get my bully a dino costume but he's weighing in at 78 pounds and I can't find a costume that will fit his stature. BOO.
