moving in.

it takes a lot longer than anticipated to unpack
when you have all these power outages (grrrrr),
a baby that loves being held,
a pup that wants to be played with,
and feel like being lazy, yourself.
but we are loving having a bit more space to stretch out in,
floors that creak because they’re so old
and a home full of charm and character.
this move has been good for us.
so far, we’re really happy here.
  1. Wonderful! :) Congrats on the new place!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you find this home? We live in the DC area, too, and are looking for a different place to rent. Would you mind emailing me? ([email protected]) Thanks!

  2. That place looks great. Have fun trying to meet everyone's needs :D I'm sure you can do it!

  3. I'm loving the photos of your new "old" home and look forward to seeing more as you decorate it. There is nothing like an old home with all of its creaks and bits of charm!! May it be filled with lots of love and happiness. : )

Looks like a gorgeous place. I'd love to see more pictures!

  5. Looks wonderful! <3

  6. I love it! We live in an old 1920's home and i love the character they have, the weird creaky floors and cupboards that dont close all the way! :) i absolutely love your pictures! enjoy! old homes are the best!

  7. Pilar

congrats on the move! can't wait to see more photos after you're settled!

  8. Sarah

Old homes have a magic to them. I totally know what you mean about the creaking floors. I used to live in an Old Town home and the character of the place just really makes you feel at home. We moved into our current place when my baby was about you baby's age. She wanted to be held all the time too. I had to do the 1 box a day method on the really tough days to unpack.

Hooray! I can't wait to see more pictures of it!

  10. becky

This looks like a home I'd like to have–old staircases and creaking, creaking floors. There is nothing better than a house with character…except, of course, the characters that reside inside. I hope you guys will be happy here and that it will be a wonderful, loving place for little Eleanor to grow! (She's getting big, by the way. And ever more beautiful with each smile!)

  11. Joy

So pretty! I love the staircase!!!

  12. colleen

oh yay! i'm so jealous…i'm feeling the itch to leave my studio, but will probably be a couple more years before that happens. looks like a lovely new home :)

  13. looks like a darling place! congrats!

  14. Congratulations on your new home! The pictures you've posted on your blog are very lovely. Last March, my husband and I moved into a home that's been in the owner's family for well over 100 years. We love the wooden floors and all of the attention to detail in our home. They just don't make houses like that anymore. We even have a staircase very similar to yours! Enjoy your new home and godspeed with the unpacking!

  15. wow – your new house looks incredibly cozy!
i just wonder how much you pay for rent per squaremeter?
    greetings from germany!

  16. Looks a lot like our 1870's Hill house– I'll bet yours was built around the same time.

  17. congrats indeed :)
move in at your own time. you're enjoying the process despite some mishaps. good outlook on life :)

  18. Anita

Awww, it'll feel like home in no time. It's a really sweet looking place, from what I can see!

  19. Yay! more room… sigh I remember the days of character and creaking floors :0) love the new digs!

  20. How exciting, but busy too!!! Congrats on the new place and good luck with the move…can't wait to see you all settled and I'm sure it will be the most adorable home ever full of charm and character!

    Liesl :)

  21. I am loving how the pictures fit the mood of unpacking.

    Juliette

  23. Congrats on your move…My family and I just moved recently and our home has old charm and much pizazz! id much rather preffer an older home over a new one :)

  24. Connie

Oh my goodness that would be my dream! Old places in DC? SWOON! Glad you're loving it! (sorry about the power outages though- blah.)

  25. That's awesome! When we bought our 80 year old house last year, we knew we'd be in for an adventure since it's such an old house, but I love it's quirks. You just can't get character like this in a brand new house! We've been here for a year and a half and we're STILL discovering little quirks.

If only boxes could unpack themselves…

  26. Glad to hear that you're settling in and making your new place a HOME. These pictures look so charming. How can anyone resist a wood floor?

  27. Rudi

Oh! You have STAIRS! Doesn't that feel great?! Congratulations on your new Family Sized house!

    love, rudi

  28. Ash

what a beautiful space! Can't wait to see more pis (or a home tour?) :) Sounds like you are super mom- handling everything with a smile on your face…good luck with unpacking- we moved into our house 4 years ago and there's STILL some boxes we haven't gone through…
