I love what Russell M Nelson, one of our church leaders, said on motherhood:

“During my professional career as a doctor of medicine, I was occasionally asked why I chose to do that difficult work. I responded with my opinion that the highest and noblest work in this life is that of a mother. Since that option was not available to me, I thought that caring for the sick might come close. I tried to care for my patients as compassionately and competently as Mother cared for me.

Many years ago the First Presidency issued a statement that has had a profound and lasting influence upon me. ‘Motherhood,’ they wrote, ‘is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels.

Because mothers are essential to God’s great plan of happiness, their sacred work is opposed by Satan, who would destroy the family and demean the worth of women.’ ” Russell M. Nelson, “Our Sacred Duty to Honor Women,” Ensign, May 1999, 38

Happy Mothers Day!

A friend just posted this on Facebook, I think you'd like it:

"There is a legend that says that since God could not be physically present amongst all His people at all times, he created Mothers to take
    His place."

  2. You are so adorable, even when you were young!

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY to all the mothers (be it biological or not) out there.

Elder Nelson says things so perfectly!

Btw, you were an ADORABLE little girl!

  11. I really love how much the LDS leaders revere motherhood, and how it is seen as literally divine through a belief in Heavenly Parents. Some of the best quotes about moms that I've ever read came from reading quotes from talks by Church leaders.

  12. What a lovely reminder… and what a darling picture!

  13. i love your quotation. so true. there is nothing nobler than a mother's work. nothing with more lasting significance. :)

  19. What a great sentiment!

I asked my mom yesterday what the hardest job she ever had was and she said, "motherhood." I laughed then asked the best job she ever had and she said, "motherhood."

Mothers are truly remarkable human beings.

  20. I absolutely love this. What a great and humbling message! Cute photo:)

  25. whimsy

    beautifully said.

  26. You and your mom have pure joy written all over your cute faces… So sweet!

  27. this is so beautiful. i am only just reading it now – i often turn back to your blog for inspiration and to remind me of what's important in life but wow this blew me away.

it's so funny how so many of the things i believe personally, from my own self reflection and study, are an established part of your faith. I am so drawn to it and although I do have my own beliefs I will forever think of your faith as a beautiful one. I really think most of the world has got it wrong about the Mormons.
