“count your many blessings.”

the weekend was beautiful.
warm crisp weather,
colorful leaves all over DC
& people out everywhere.
we basically lived outside.
yesterday during church,
we sang count your blessings. {in the hymnal, it says to sing “brightly!”}
even if we don’t share the same faith,
i think these lyrics are so beautiful, and very fitting for this time of year.
i need to sing them to myself {in my head of course} more often…
count your blessings:
“when upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
when you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
count your many blessings, name them one by one,
and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
chorus: count your blessings, name them one by one,
count your blessings, see what God hath done!
count your blessings, name them one by one,
and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
are you ever burdened with a load of care?
does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
count your many blessings, every doubt will fly;
and you will keep singing as the days go by.
when you look at others with their lands and gold,
think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
count your many blessings. wealth can never buy
your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
so, amid the conflict whether great or small,
do not be disheartened, God is over all;
count your many blessings, angels will attend,
help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.”

….
you know something? God is good.

" When im worried and i Can't sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep, then Ill fall asleep, counting my blessings!"
    the movie rules.

  39. when i used to go to church this was one of my favorites! actually, singing hymns, any of them really, was always the best thing about church for me. i want to write my own hymns and sing them in a meadow with my friends. for this exact reason…what a beautiful reminder to pay attention to what is so sweet in life. how perfect that you were outside most of the weekend.

    and your husband is ROCKING the church clothes up there!

  40. nifer

    The more you are grateful, the more you get! If you're not grateful for what you have, the universe thinks you don't need anymore. I believe that!

    Check out my blog this month. I'm doing 26 days of thankfulness leading up to Thanksgiving. It's been nice reminding myself daily of what I'm thankful for!

    Usually everyday I wake up with a song in my head (Mostly made up ones, ones that I haven't listened to in ages, or ones I just recently listened to.)and this morning it was this one! I read this post yesterday so thank you for helping me start my day off right. :D

  78. Joan

    thank you. i needed that today.

  79. jill

    Very nice hymn, and God certainly is good.

    Also, we (friends and I) have a request- could you post more often with real writing and not 2 sentences and a random photo? It can be hard to stay interested in your blog since it's the same thing all the time. We want to know more about you the person…not just giveaways that indirectly earn you a paycheck/weekly date nights. What about your actual life? Teaching? Does your husband like his job? What stresses you out? You don't have to share serious details (you're trying to get pregnant, or that sort of thing) but just, give us something to make us care. it must be hard for family/friends to stay in the loop since you post so little. However, i do understand why you don't, because you obviously don't NEED to do anything more than you're doing with your sizeable following. I suppose why fix what's not broken? the formula works.

    (sorry for the suggestion, it probably came off kind of rude. But i guess this is what comment moderation was made for!)

  80. The pictures on your blog are incredible! The lighting and the texture are just beautiful.

  81. Brittany

    You know, he is so so good. I love this post, Naomi.

    p.s. you two are just beautiful!

  82. Feelmore

    Really sweet post, you guys make such a happy couple!

  83. One of my favorite Hymns.
    Right after, "If You Could Hie To Kolob." =)

    You are my favorite.
    And kudos for representing! <3

  84. Taza–

    you don't have to allow this comment to show– but I was just reading through these comments and want you to know that people follow your blog because you are positive, inspirational and simply lovely. Don't change a bit. Keep posting your 2 liners, your pics, your date nights… We love them all and were fantastically grateful for your sharing:). To me– you are one of the most brave bloggers. You are thoughtful, positive and don't shy away from talking about what makes you centered and happy– your family and faith. I share your faith, and I am grateful for your bravery and example.

    Way to go lady– probably without trying you are uniting people and faiths with you cupcakes and red lipstick. I adore you. Don't change a bit. This is your life and were lucky to be peeking in:).

    Xoxo
