back in 2008, i discovered pipilotti rist through an exhibition she was doing at the MoMA and i fell in love with her work called ever is over all. there is something about it that almost put me in a trance, where i could literally spend an hour just watching the same 3 minute clip in a loop, seeing and discovering new things each time i watched it, and piecing together a different story as well. also, that music (with the clashing of the woman’s flower against the car windows!!!!). it just stuck with me and even all these years later, i think about it. i went back to the MoMA so many times while that exhibition was running, and you can see my blog posts on it here.
she currently has a big presentation happening at the new museum downtown called pixel forest and it is insane. when i heard it had opened, i sent josh a text like, “WE HAVE TO GO RIGHT NOW!!!!!!” also, such a sweet surprise to see that my favorite piece, her ever is over all, is part of the presentation. the exhibit takes up 3 entire floors, and it actually shares works from her entire career with pieces dating back to the 80’s. it’s so fascinating to see it evolve. she does a lot of incredible things with videos and music and sounds, i’m excited to go back. we’re going to take the kids next time, i want to share it with them.
here’s the piece i was talking about! my favorite! love when the police officer walks by her and gives her a smile and a nod. it’s just so good.
this man who is looking into that crate, is looking at this tiny room you see below that had a video spanning across one wall of it!
if you’re in the city, it’s running through mid january! and here’s a link to read more about it if you can’t make it.
