we had the best morning a few saturdays ago with friends and family in central park celebrating our mister samson and his 4th birthday! all he talked about the past few months leading up to his big day was how much he wanted a robot birthday cake. he’s on a really big robot kick these days and you’ll find him imitating a robot by speaking or walking like one at least twice a day. it’s the cutest thing ever. “H-E-L-L-O. I-AM-A-ROBOT.” …like, all day long. that is, when is isn’t busy playing pet store.
my sister hannah came over the night before and helped me construct the robot birthday cake. we were seriously crying from laughing so hard by 1 in the morning because this cake took way longer than we thought and there were moments when it looked nothing like a robot. ha! we weren’t sure it was going to make it at times! we used edible silver paint on top of the cake so there was a solid layer of sparkly silver stuff all over everything in the room. just don’t look too closely at it, but the good news is, samson loved it. and that made me so very happy to see his expression when he woke up the next morning to see his robot cake!
we loaded up our big bucket bike with all the party supplies the morning of and fortunately only had to make one trip to the park! that bucket bike is basically our minivan! ;) thank you to all of samson’s friends for coming out to celebrate with us! a few photos below…
this photo is giving me crazy deja vu from samson’s first birthday party in central park three years ago!!! a few of our good friends that were there for that birthday party are still in the city and were here for this one! i am forever grateful for the wonderful people we have met in new york who have become our second family. we have been so lucky to have made such incredible friends here, and love getting the chance to celebrate these special milestones with them.
i think the biggest feat from the weekend was carrying this over to central park without any mishaps! thank you to ryan, hannah’s husband, who helped me carry it after my arms were truly ready to collapse half way to the park. that robot was heavy! ;) i thought with all the time i’ve been spending at the gym, that’d i’d be up for the task. but, nope! still have a long ways to go with my strength!
is this not the cutest robot you ever did see?!?! i love him so much.
the night before, we painted a bunch of white paper bags silver (because i couldn’t find silver ones anywhere in manhattan, and of course procrastinated going to get them until the day before.) we had the kids decorate them however they liked and helped them make robot helmets!
josh made a little path with a streamer that turned at sharp right angles that the robots had to follow over to their next activity. it was really fun to see all the “robot walks!”
all the robots!
sorry, these little robots running to win the ‘robot race’ was probably the cutest thing ever.
i found this cute little vintage robot toy for samson when i was in nashville the other month and he has slept with it like one would a teddy bear a few times! obviously, very devoted to his current love of robots. ;) he named it robey. like robe-ee.
the robot piñata that just would not give!!!!! (i ended up having to take scissors to the back after everyone had a turn hitting it but still no candy had fallen! that thing was intense!)
conrad taking a swing at the piñata was awesome. he was so proud of himself! we used a light saber for the first couple of rounds until we realized one of our little friends had brought his baseball stuff with him to the park and had a baseball bat!
and i love conrad clapping and cheering his big brother on in this photo!
sorry for the next several photos! i couldn’t just choose one! his facial expressions are the sweetest. so happy to see him so happy.
samson really wanted the middle piece! lol.
these two together eating their cake! conrad was too fast running around eating all the candy he swiped from the piñata to sit still for a photo. i wish i could have gotten one of all three of my kiddos together before the party started!!! the next birthday!
happiest birthday to you, samson! we love you so much!!!
my peplum chambray blouse HERE. the robot piñata HERE. the tiny white robots and wooden painted masks we found at michaels. and endless robot birthday cake inspiration found by googling “robot birthday cake” haha! now THOSE are some robot cakes!
