all of the important stuff, like pictures of ceilings and ramblings regarding my fam.

“hello! good morning! how is your day today? what did you do today?” ha! sometimes samson loves to say all of that in the same breath at 6-something in the morning at the dining room table.  what did i do today? well, i just woke up. i’m still yawning and rubbing my eyes, and now i’m sitting with you! not a lot to report.  but watching a toddler begin any sort of chit-chat is one of my favorite things. i want their cheery early morning riser attitudes to rub off on me. i’m not worth talking to until well after 9 in the morning. or even 10? :\ trying for their sake though.

here’s S just face-timing his aunty hannah while waiting for his food being made while we were at lunch last week. most of his facetime conversations with family these days revolve around singing his caller his favorite songs. lately he’s favoring “the itsy bitsy spider” which requires the use of his hands, so this means the caller on the other end is usually looking up at the ceiling while he sings. ha! also, THIS KID TURNS THREE TOMORROW!!!! i cannot believe he’s this big but in the same breath i absolutely can, and i’m so so proud of the good big brave and happy boy he is becoming.  he lights up our world.

rootandbone1rootandbone2here are a few photos from the ceiling at root & bone last week. the light installation was just beautiful.  i couldn’t stop looking at it. you know it’s good when i’m willing to pull the big real camera out of my bag to snap a photo of it, all while holding a squirmy 5 month old. ;) but isn’t it pretty? also, the fried chicken at root & bone. totally the best i’ve had here in the city.

eleanor1

there are moments like this one pictured where she almost looks “teenager.” and while she sits ever so calmly, i’m doing the weirdest freaking out dance inside my head because i’m just not ready for any of this. kindergarten and everything that follows…. reading and writing, crushes, bullies and mean girls, the works. i’m getting ahead of myself. but you know what i mean.

rootandbonerootandbone3

and also, this mac n’ cheese, while intended for just the kids, i could not get enough of it. ate every leftover crumb and noodle on their plate. so good.

josh1

i love this look on josh’s face. can you believe we’re celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary in a few short weeks? WHAT. still think he’s the real deal and all that other sappy love stuff that made up  the entirety of my blog when i first started this thing a few months after we were married. (side note, do you ever look back at your old blog posts and just face palm? but i do that with pretty much everything in life, food or music choices, hair styles, fashion. i’m constantly face palming.) anyway, back to josh.  he’s currently getting grey hair and i’m currently getting wrinkles in all the wrong places, but wow when you find your best friend and get to move through life together… it’s good.

have a wonderful friday, you guys!

  1. Aww, happy birthday Samson! That light installation is BEAUTIFUL.

  2. This post is so sweet. You guys are so inspirational to me and I know I say this on almost every other post you publish on here but man I take so many mental (and actual) notes learning from your blog! I hope you have the very best day and no worries I LOVE looking back on your old posts, absolutely no need to face-palm your beautiful face :)

    Love from the netherlands,
    Yara

  3. Maria

I just melted with Josh expression, it’s like he is looking at me and saying “everything’s gonna be alright, I’m with you”. I can understand why you love this look. What a great family you have! Happy pre-birthday to Samson!!

  4. Emi

Hi Naomi! I genuinely love your blog! You’re told that a lot but your family really looks lovely and amazing. By the way, I was wondering how Josh and you meet?! That would be a nice story to tell and I bet your littles have already asked you that question.
    A bientôt de Paris !

  5. Happy early Birthday Samson!! And I love your old blog posts. When I first found your blog a few years ago I fell in love with those old blog posts. One sticks out to me for some reason. You guys were in an airport taking photos with every little magnet and trinket that said something about Virginia is for lovers haha. I don’t know why but I always think of that when I am in airport shops now. Nothing beats a good love story (and good looking couple) ;)

Happy Birthday Samson [tomorrow], my birthday twin!! :)

LOVE your old blog posts, you guys were so cute. I still go back and read them every once in a while, and click on the “you might also enjoy” ones. I only started my blog last year and i STILL go back and read them like wow, cheesy much? But it’s so great that you have years of memories to look back on through your blog, which is exactly what inspired me to start mine. Even the cheesy memories ;)

Also, that mac & cheese kind of looks like the best thing ever.

    Have a good weekend!

I can totally relate, face palm, wrinkles, grey hairs, 5 1/2 years of marriage and a little. Thanks for sharing a part of your world, Naomi.

  8. This totally just brightened my day. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Gabrielle

N’awh! This warms my heart so much. I’ve been an avid reader of this blog for the past few years. I’ve cheered when your babes were born (…and shed a tear or two!). Man, your kids are growing up so quickly. I really love this blog and, hope it will be around for a long time.

Every time I come on here to read a post, it inspires me to create a blog. This idea has been in my head for a while, I just haven’t got around to doing it! I hope you and your family are well :)

  10. joanna

It’s the sweetest and the best post I’ve read in a while.
I’ve normally never comment, but this time – I HAD TO.

and I agree. It it oh-so-good to find best friend and have the opportunity to grow up, have children, grow old together. Just be.

Happy weekend and thank you for lightening my day!

N’awh! This warms my heart so much. I’ve been an avid reader of this blog for the past few years. I cheered when your babes were born (…and maybe shed a tear or two). Man, your kids are growing up so quickly and, have their own personalities. I adore this blog and hope it will be around for a long time.

Seriously every time I come here to read a post, I always feel inspired to start my own blog (an idea that it has been in my head for a long time). I hope you and your family are well :)

  12. Jennifer Wray

Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. Thanks for a couple happy tears to my eyes this morning, Taza.

  13. Megan

i absolutely adored this post! I hope that someday I can have a family that exudes love, grace and fun just like yours. Thank you for sharing your life! You all rock!

  14. Haha, Taza, what are the right places for wrinkles? Remember to be kind to yourself – you are amazing! I love the light installation too. You cracked me up with the “constantly face palming” ME TOO.

    Warm Regards,

those little faces are priceless. Your blog is full of joy for so many :) thanks for sharing.

i like that line – “getting to move through life together” because i swear after college, all of the days have started to run together. i’m so thankful to have someone to get to do just that with, as well!

love how grown up those babies of yours look!

  17. Bev

Need to put this place on my eating list when I’m in NYC next time, looks delish and that ceiling…amazing!

Such a sweet family. You guys rock!

  20. Trisha

hi Naomi! I was wondering what tips you have for eating out with young kids and babies? I have an active 1 yr old who barely sits still long enough in the high chair to eat her food. Eating out is getting hard but we love to try new places so I need hope :)

  21. Lauren

ahh i like posts like this, it’s almost like a little diary entry! these are the post which are the most fun to look back on, i think. :) and your right, eleanor looks so grown up in that picture! the best is yet to come for you guys. :)

definitely don’t face palm! i love reading your early posts, and even re-reading them! you are a true inspiration and always so optimistic. xo

  23. Alyssa

I adore this post! Great place! Lovely family! I enjoy reading about your love for your hubby. I feel the same way about mine. :) such a great feeling.

Comfort food and family — is there anything better?! That restaurant looks amazing and your family is beautiful, as always. Have a great weekend!

  25. Ashley

I’m face-palming, always ;-) So love that you normalized that :) Thank you so much for this post and all of them… you have inspired me and taught me so much about… so much! xo

  26. Rebecca

No, Naomi! NO! When I look back at your old posts, I cheer! Those are the things that drew me to you back then!! I loved your honest, moody writing and would love to see/hear a little more of that from you. And I bet I’m not the only one of your followers who have “grown up” with you and feel this way! I get that the direction of your blog has changed, but it would be fun to hear more from you!

  27. All these photos are beautiful. I absolutely love your blog.

  28. It’s been fun watching you two, via- your blog, because my husband and I were married at the SL temple 8 years ago (5/12/07!) and now have two kids! So in a weird way, (not creepy!) I feel like we relate to you guys. My husband is getting some grey hair, and I am getting wrinkles, and although i’m not super excited about the wrinkles, I just stop and think about how AWESOME it is to be growing old together. (not that any of us are “old”, but you know what I mean!) Life is just wonderful. Even when it’s stressful, and there are tantrums, and not enough hours in the day, we have each other. Hope you have a nice day! This post made me smile. :)

Haha! I’ve been reading your blog since 2008 (I’m not creepy, I promise.) and I’ve always thought you had wonderful style! However, when I look at my pins on pinterest when I was a mere 20-year old… facepalms. Facepalms all over the place.

  30. Felisha

Oh my, that mac and cheese. Be still my heart.

Also – Josh is SO handsome! He can definitely rock a beard, too.

Side note – I love your mushy lovey-dovey posts about him, because you can just tell they’re so genuine. I think a lot of other bloggers post stuff like this and it doesn’t feel real, or it feels almost forced – but when I read yours, I feel like I’m reading your secret diary because of the honesty. You’ve got a lot of heart and it shows through in your posts, for sure. :)

It’s really importnat to be friends with your hubby. After the first fascination and sensation, there comes friendship. People who make a couple should get on day by day. Without it, it’s diffucult to make it.

Oh my god! Samson you are already 3! It seems like yesterday as your mama tells us on the blog that she is pregnant. i wish you a beautiful Birthday sweet Samson! Lovely Greetings from Switzerland

    xxx magali

  34. “i’m constantly face palming” – this sounds like a real motto to me!:) You are great. Sad that we are ‘billion’ kilometres apart. Thanks to the internet for this opportunity – to see how you live and to witness how love and family is beautiful and just the most important thing in life. This is really hard to find nowadays, especially in people around me. Most of them are thinking about…I don’t even know if it’s career that they want. I think they simply do not think about others. And you are giving me hope, that out there, no matter how far, there are people who just CARE. Lots of love to you from Poland. :*
